I can actually tell the difference when using the oval ring over a round one. When testing it out on pavement in a low gear I could really feel my legs pulsing and thought I would hate it, but this immediately went away when I was actually on the trail. If you use a bottom chain guide the rear mech arm will pulse because different amounts of teeth are in contact with the chain, without one it does NOT do that. The Narrow Wide profile of the teeth works great (like all other NW profiles) and I haven't had any issues with chain engagement. This is a great product.

I was torn between the absolute black 32t oval or a 30t round. I had ridden another bike with 30t and the range was acceptable, I had never ridden an oval but read good things online. I decided to go with this based on statements of better stroke and better use of energy.
I have now been on 2 rides these rides were less than 12 hours apart and totaled about 20 miles with steep technical climbing. Each ride my legs felt great, and lower back fatigue/pain was gone. I never noticed a pulsing feeling as some others have stated previously.
As for the gear range, on previous rides with the 32t round I was consistently begging for one more gear, long climbs were tough to say the least. With the 32t oval I was able to stay out of the granny gear I'm more than happy with the extra gear or 2.
Overall the Absolute black 32t oval delivered on everything I was hoping to get out of my new chainring!

However, I do NOT prefer it on my geared full-suspension MTB. Tried running the oval ring on my geared bike, and in a situation where you can shift to maintain an ideal cadence, and remain seated on the climbs, it prevents full use of the hamstrings/glutes through the back portion of the pedal stroke. After riding it for a week on the geared full suspension bike, and going back to round, I'm sticking with round there.
Bottom line, I absolutely LOVE the Absolute Black oval ring on my singlespeed, and wouldn't go back to round there ever.
