Very cool, works great
I recently built my dream machine and had done a ton of reading about Oval Rings. I thought I would give it a try. I originally purchased 3 different ovals (OneUp, Wolftooth and this one). Honestly they were all about the same. I ended up sticking with this one because it created the best chainline for my bike.

I can actually tell the difference when using the oval ring over a round one. When testing it out on pavement in a low gear I could really feel my legs pulsing and thought I would hate it, but this immediately went away when I was actually on the trail. If you use a bottom chain guide the rear mech arm will pulse because different amounts of teeth are in contact with the chain, without one it does NOT do that. The Narrow Wide profile of the teeth works great (like all other NW profiles) and I haven't had any issues with chain engagement. This is a great product.

Easy on the legs
I was blown away how oval the chainring look and thought it would throw my pedal motion out of whack. During my first casual ride and noticed how fluid the pedal motion was and more noticeable when pushing on flat. The climb doesn't do much for speed but does help preserve leg energy for longer rides. Rode 12,000 feet in four rides and didn't have to take a nap after each ride. :-0)

Great chainring
The stock 32t ring that came my bike seemed like it didn't give me the range I needed for steep or prolonged climbs. When debating what chainring to get
I was torn between the absolute black 32t oval or a 30t round. I had ridden another bike with 30t and the range was acceptable, I had never ridden an oval but read good things online. I decided to go with this based on statements of better stroke and better use of energy.

I have now been on 2 rides these rides were less than 12 hours apart and totaled about 20 miles with steep technical climbing. Each ride my legs felt great, and lower back fatigue/pain was gone. I never noticed a pulsing feeling as some others have stated previously.

As for the gear range, on previous rides with the 32t round I was consistently begging for one more gear, long climbs were tough to say the least. With the 32t oval I was able to stay out of the granny gear I'm more than happy with the extra gear or 2.

Overall the Absolute black 32t oval delivered on everything I was hoping to get out of my new chainring!

Oval rings are great!
Absolute Black oval rings are very well designed and made. I have never dropped a chain with a SRAM GX setup. This ring made climbing technical section a breeze. Took about 30min to adapt to an oval ring.

Great for singlespeed
I put this on a Trek Stache set up singlespeed. For a singlespeed application, it works wonderfully: the ovalized ring aids in turnover when standing (which is done quite a bit when climbing with only one gear); additionally, it helps smooth out the pedal stroke and prevent bouncing when pedaling at very high cadences on the flat.

However, I do NOT prefer it on my geared full-suspension MTB. Tried running the oval ring on my geared bike, and in a situation where you can shift to maintain an ideal cadence, and remain seated on the climbs, it prevents full use of the hamstrings/glutes through the back portion of the pedal stroke. After riding it for a week on the geared full suspension bike, and going back to round, I'm sticking with round there.

Bottom line, I absolutely LOVE the Absolute Black oval ring on my singlespeed, and wouldn't go back to round there ever.

Excellent product and helps with the climbs
I purchased this to see if it would help relieve some stress on my knees when doing long in the seat climbs. I keep the same tooth count as my standard ring and I can tell the difference in the power delivery. I have a slow cadence and don't do significant cadence riding on my MTB. I installed on my Santa Cruz Nomad and so far have enjoyed the purchase

SRAM uses 49mm chainlines. I am running an xx1 derailleur and E13 9-44 11 speed cassette. Will this work 100%?
Aaron S on Jan 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I am running this chainring on a cinch crank with X01 11 speed derailleur and 10-42 cassette. Works perfect for my setup, I believe it should work for you as well. For what it's worth, I really like spinning oval.
