My new bike came with Avid Elixirs. They were very powerful but had zero modulation - it was all or nothing, and this became very dangerous on steep descents. I replaced them with Avid Codes, which were just as powerful but have awesome modulation. The amount of extra control these give me has been awesome, makes all the difference.
These brakes have also been very reliable. I find with other Avid brakes (various elixir models) I am constantly having to re-set the pistons, adjust the reach, and even bleed them to keep the pads from contacting the rotors. I have not had to touch the Codes, they are very consistent in terms of performance. For me its worth the extra cash to upgrade to these over any other Avid brake. I've been using them for just over 1 year.

New bike, new brakes. I had the old version of the code and when I got a new frame I decided that it was time for new brakes. It only took 3 weeks to have issues with the master cylinder. Within a month they were leaking oil and completely blown.
For the looks the code wins, however once again Avid has failed to fix the major issue with their high end product. At least they warranty centre is great and they sent me a brand new set. I will be selling them and getting the new saints.
