STOP! Don’t smash your piggy bank! Great stopping power shouldn’t break the bank. The Elixir 1 is an entry level brake that features TaperBore technology. TaperBore refers to the patent pending closure system that shaves weight, looks sleek, and improves lever feedback, and provides ultimate power and control. This is found in Avid’s high end brakes as well. The Elixir 1 has an ambidextrous lever body, tooled reach- adjust, and two piece top- loading caliper. Top- loading caliper’s allow you to install new brake pads without even dropping the wheel! This is a great bang for the buck brake set!

Comments about Avid Elixir 1 Disc Brake:

I have used these brakes on my GT Sensor that I use for everything. I ride moderate trails to bike parks with these brakes and they have never let me down. They do create some noise occasionally but it's nothing to complain about. For the price it's an amazing deal.

Comments about Avid Elixir 1 Disc Brake:

Without a doubt Avid is the industry leader when it comes to stopping. And their entry level hydraulic id no exception. I have these on both my XC bike and on my DJ. They do the job, are fairly easy to set up provided you have a bleed kit or like long lines, and are fairly sturdy. I've bombed some lines sending both bikes flailing wildly and crashing hard and these levers haven't budged. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade to hydraulics or just as a replacement. As always, if you are uncomfortable with installation seek the help of your local bike shop. Weight weenies might cry about a few extra grams, but those grams add strength.

Comments about Avid Elixir 1 Disc Brake:

I got those brakes as OEM on a bike, first set failed after around 800 miles MTB, the pistons were not moving, basically braking all the time
got a replacement set this July, rear brake is leaking and needs bleeding before any ride...
do not waste your money , those are just junk, look for SHIMANO

Comments about Avid Elixir 1 Disc Brake:

These brakes have good power for everything from trails to even days of downhill riding. They don't fade or make any noise at all as far as I'm concerned. The lever does pull back a bit far which may pose an issue if your fingers are behind the lever. I ride with one finger on the brakes (they provide enough power this way) so I don't find it a problem. Regular bleeding can likely remedy this anyway. They came on my bike and I was planning to upgrade them, but after using them I just see no point as they do everything I need and I have no complaints.

Comments about Avid Elixir 1 Disc Brake:

Great brakes! Never had brake fade, or failure. When rotor is wet, it squeels, but as far as I know... that is common with most disk brakes. I ran into a tree, brake lever first, I was thrown off, and the brake lever laughed at the tree...
