Replacement pads for the Avid Elixir hydraulic disc brake.
  • QTY "1" is enough pads for one wheel. Order "2" to replace the pads on one complete bicycle
  • Steel back is most economical, aluminum back is more expensive but saves weight
  • Choose metal compound for maximum braking power (downhill/freeride use, larger rotors, bigger, more aggressive riders) and organic for general, all-around use, most quiet operation

I ordered the Sintered by mistake. However, after a bit of research I am a big guy. 6'2" and 250 lbs and sintered pads offered better stopping power. I read reviews that sintered may wear the rotors out quicker than organic pads. The times can be somewhere between 1-3 years for a downhill rider. I ride trails. So, I am willing to take that risk. Plus the factory rotors are priced cheap and upgrades are reasonably priced. Pads installed quickly and broke in nicely.

Some reviews said the sintered along with avid brakes are loud, these did squeal slightly once I installed them. But found this to be an alignment issue and researched that ANY pad/brand will be loud if they are not properly aligned. I used the Hayes Alignment tool to take care of the realignment and have had no problems.

These pads were installed on a Cannondale Flash 2 w/ Lefty. I will be ordering these again.

I use these on road to commute and off road. Just replaced brakes to Avid Elixer 9's in early Winter. Pads were quick to muck up in snow and mud, even with frequent cleaning. Pads were worn beyond recommended wear thickness when I pulled them after about 5 months, but rotors fine. Won't do that again. Hope for better wear in drier Spring and Summer.

PinkBike video on Utube was brilliant step by step. to walk through first time replacement process. Took about 15 minutes to complete both brakes with no issues.

    Design is simple and functional.

I ride hard, but they don't seem to last like I think they should. No happy with the entire elixir system. They have been a real problem for my type of riding.

Replacement set. No noise when braking. Not as responsive as organic, but wear life is much better. I have the same set in the front. Works great in wet and dry conditions.

They do what they're supposed to....stop my bike. Nothing fancy, not great stopping power but, great life. Rode a 60k enduro in pouring rain, mud, sand etc and these bad boys lasted, no problem while other racers with organic pads DNFed all day long. Super easy to change even on the trail if need be.

They do what they're supposed to, slow down the bike. Really easy to install, but I think that's more a function of the brake design than the brake pad.

I was talked into buying the organic compound for my trek scratch 8... these wore down quickly and had less power then i remembered (with the stock steel pads) i then bought the steel pads again and they are lasting longer, with more braking power... and i dont notice any kind of noise.. cant ask for any more from brakes
