I bought these brakes to replace a couple of V-brakes I had on my mountain bike. The installation seemed easy enough on the manual, and I followed the instructions step by step, but the rotors kept on rubbing on the pads. I tried to make adjustments but it was impossible. Come to find out, the rotor came bent, so it didn't matter how straight I got the brake, the rotor would still rub. This also prevented me from adjusting the pads as close to the rotor was possible.
I tried to ignore the rubbing and got the pads as close to the rotor as possible, but even this would not give me enough stopping power. The V-brakes I had before had more stopping power. These aren't good brakes, and the rotor for the front I ordered was defective.

Super dependable brakes that you can relay on for years. They may not have quite the stopping power of hydraulic brakes, but they are cheaper and you don't have to mess with brake fluids. Great option for long bikepacking trips.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

This break has been out for quite some time. It is the quintessential benchmark of disc brake performance. From a mechanical perspective that is. This easily out performs every mechanical break out there and always has. Ease of set up the overall performance this is the only mechanical disc brake you should buy.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

Installed these on my Mukluk fat bike winter 2015-16 build. Front went on with 0mm clamp (came that way) but the rear needed the 20mm clamp to be installed instead and at an angle which was counter intuitive. Used the bolt from the Mukluk frame b/c the Avid bold was too short to go through my rear drops. I first installed rotors, THEN installed the BB7 to the frame, then installed the wheel. Everyone has their own way to do it, but for me, that worked out. Using them with the Avid Speed Dial 7 levers which are a perfect aesthetic match as well. Having experience with Avid BB5 (my commuter) and Avid (racing MTB), Avid reliability and durability have proven themselves to me time and time again in all conditions. Will hydraulics stop you faster and with no noise, sure they will. But they cost double what mechanical discs do and these require only pad replacements over time and no other maintenance. Simple to install, and worked perfectly stopping me through the Blizzard of 2016 here in northern VA. Once wet, they were slightly noisy, but nothing compared to the noise of the BB5's. Really wanting to upgrade my BB5's to 7's now. But don't hesitate to purchase these even if you can afford TRP - over $200 - b/c at the end of the ride, all brakes will stop you.

I used the BB7'd to for a change on my my Giant Mtn Bike. Love the stopping power! They do not fade like my old Tektro Novela. They were easy enough to change out took less than an hour to do both the front and the back.

                        A:

This brake is available in both versions. The MTN image is for illustration purposes only. If you require the road version, please select "160mm G2 Rotor, Front Or Rear, Road" from the "Choose Option" drop-down menu on the product page. Note, you will still see the MTN version image, but will be shipped the Road version.
