I bought these brakes to replace a couple of V-brakes I had on my mountain bike. The installation seemed easy enough on the manual, and I followed the instructions step by step, but the rotors kept on rubbing on the pads. I tried to make adjustments but it was impossible. Come to find out, the rotor came bent, so it didn't matter how straight I got the brake, the rotor would still rub. This also prevented me from adjusting the pads as close to the rotor was possible.
I tried to ignore the rubbing and got the pads as close to the rotor as possible, but even this would not give me enough stopping power. The V-brakes I had before had more stopping power. These aren't good brakes, and the rotor for the front I ordered was defective.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

I bought these because they were at the right price point to finish a build. I put them on and forgot that I wanted higher-end brakes! They stop well, they look good, and for under $100 per side, they're half what trp spykes cost. Great bang for the buck!

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

Although these are my first time using disc brakes, i think i am fully converted for my future bike upgrades. I'm using these brakes on the front suspension while using Avid V-brakes in the rear. Also need to note is the use of Jagwire cables and housing. The BB7 feels literally like most hydraulic discs on the market with Jagwire's and Speed Dial levers. Yes, they pads do need a few rides to get broken in, but I now am feeling the real power behind discs and especially the BB7 setup. I really think these will be on my next mountain bike build both front and back.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

I am satisfied with these babies. I have or have had them on every bike I have owned since my first FS mountain bike in 2002. The design has improved since then, but the quality and dependability have remained the very highest! the only down side is the tricky dialing in at the first install, but that just takes practice. These brakes have never let me down! I cannot say enough! Caveat: I have never had any experience with other brands of mechanical brakes, nor with hydraulic brakes, Avid or otherwise, so I cannot compare or contrast these options with the BB7. What I can say is I have never had a need or desire to try anything else. please take that for what it is worth!

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

Good stuff at a great price. When you get ready to read the instructions change your mindset and just look at the pictures. Especially where the use of a bracket and adjusting washers are concerned. My application had me removing some washers to get the proper setup. Use your own preference when adjusting the pads. The metallic pads are noisy and irritating. So the next day I installed some Avid Organic pads and yes! no noise and easy bedding and adjusting.
Nice when paired up with Avid speed dial levers.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

I bought the road version of the BB7's. Make sure you buy the right version for the type of brake levers you're using. These are a huge upgrade from the Tektro Lyra brakes that came with my cyclocross bike. They're made specifically for road levers as opposed the the Tektro's, which lacked stopping power. My only complaint is that black calipers are shown in the picture (which I wanted), but I received silver ones (which I didn't want).

Bought these to replace the V-Brakes on the front of my MTB. They were simple to install and provide much better modulation that my Avid SD7s. After some tweaking and proper adjustment, they're silent when rolling and very little noise under braking. They've performed well in the wet, too!

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake:

My old Juicy 5 brakes were inconsistent. The front worked well, but the rear was always at the point of dragging, and had too little lever travel for my liking. There is no adjusting hydraulic brakes. Either they are good or not. So I went mechanical. I can adjust these brakes to my liking. On my first test ride after installing the BB7s, the braking was fairly weak. But don't worry, they just need some break-in. After one 2 hour ride, they gave powerful braking.
