3 years into this helmet now. I've replaced four family members helmets since. Pads have held up nicely.....thankfully no skull rash to test the protection. Stoked Jenson marked it down so much. Keep the rubber side down.

I have always preferred Bell helmets simply because they fit my head best but they also provide excellent protection. Several years ago I had a very bad accident on the trail. I went over the bars at speed landing head first into a boulder. My Bell was shattered from the front to about halfway back. I ended up with a concussion but that was all. The Variant is an excellent helmet. The retention system is a set it and forget it affair. It has good ventilation and the matte black finish on mine has a nice stealthy appearance to it.

What a great deal, really been loving this helmet. Light and cool enough for long rides, but the full coverage in the back feels safe for mtn riding. Take the visor off and use it on the road too.

I have had many spills on my MTB but none that comapred to the plunge into pavement that I took when training for a tri on my buddies tri bike. I was going about 24mph, lost the front and I planted the side of my helmet into the road. The helmet was gouged pretty good, the foam inside cracked in many places and all I had was a slight headache. I can't imagine what my head would have been like with out it.
