I wear my balaclava when the temperture is between 35 and 45. Colder than that and I don't ride. Warmer and I don't need it, unless there is a strong wind coming off the lake, then I'll wear it up to 50 degrees.
I was surprised at how warm it kept my face and head, plus how well it stops the wind. It also fits well beneath my helmet.
Can't say how long it will last, but wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

I have the bellweather skull cap for most cold rides but I wear this instead on the coldest days of winter when I need to protect my face from the cold wind. The micro fleece lining makes it super comfortable!
