Race Face Single Narrow/Wide Chainring

These chainrings are a game changer for single-ring drivetrains! These Race Face Single rings now feature performance-enhancing chain retention technology, allowing them (for most riders) to be used without a chainguide! The secret are alternating fat/skinny teeth to fit more closely into the narrow and wide plate spacing of a normal chain, "grabbing" the chain and holding it more securely... even without the use of a clutched derailleur!

Race Face also managed to develop a 30T front chainring for a 104 BCD. Geekery aside, this allows you to get a low enough climbing gear for pedaling an All-Mountain bike up the trail, without having to buy different cranks.

The Narrow/Wide Single Rings are strong enough to stand up to the abuse of the downhill trail, yet light enough for cross country racers. Single Rings are machined from 7075 aluminum and tested in the most punishing terrain. They’re built to last!

Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring Features

  • 104 BCD
  • Narrow Wide tooth profiling ensures ultimate chain retention
  • Stiff 4mm plate thickness and I-beam construction transfer loads without flexing
  • 7075-T6 aluminum, aerospace grade strength
  • Reversible laser etched graphics.
  • Compatible for 9, 10 and 11 speed.
  • 30T 104BCD NW single ring is threaded with a standard M8x0.75 chainring bolt thread, see the hardware chart for the appropriate bolt length required for your combination on Race Face's website by clicking HERE.
  • If running a 30T ring, you will need the Race Face Chainring Tab Shims (D40331) which you can purchase by clicking HERE.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

Can't go wrong with one of these, haven't had a signal dropped chain. Prior to ordering one I purposely ran my 1x10 setup without a N/W ring to see how well the clutch derailleurs keep the chain on; which unfortunately resulted in 1 to 2 chain drops every ride, and it gave me time to decide what tooth count I wanted. I opted for the 36 tooth that I run with a 11-42 cassette in the back and it's been GREAT!!

I have used it for over 6 months now without a SINGLE dropped chain. I won't say never, but I'll probably not return to a 2 x system again. I love this product. Raceface nailed it.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

I've been using the 32-tooth model of this chainring for the past 2 weeks. I'm running a 1x9 setup with Deore FC-M590 cranks, a RD-M772 Shadow (clutchless) rear derailleur, and a CS-M770 (11-32) cassette. I've covered 75 miles of offroad riding and a bit of urban riding (stairs included) with no dropped chains. My bike, an XL sized full-suspension, is not equipped with a chain guide. My drivetrain runs quieter now than with the triple. The only way I could be more pleased with this product is if it had come with the crank shims/tabs that I ordered separately from this site.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

With the 30 tooth, be sure you mount it with the build in spacers facing the crank spider (I didn't get that at first and it skips if you mount it the other way - duh!)

Also, you'll need to take your drive side crank off to fit this on b/c it's too small to wiggle on.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

There are more expensive options for a 1x drivetrain, but none are more capable or stylish that this one. Looks great on my SLX cranks, especially with the tab shims. Combined with a Shadow+ derailleur, you will have a hard time dropping a chain. For extreme trails, I have an MRP AMG guide on for extra security and to protect the chainring on the bash side.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

I put this on my Fuel ex 8 and couldn't be happier. I have yet to have a dropped chain, even after recently riding Coldcreek trails in Alabama which have some pretty narly rock gardens. The only thing i had a problem with was not being able to mount the chain ring with the Raceface logos facing outward. The crank bolts bottomed out so i had to flip it around for it to work. 5/5

This chainring in conjunction with a type 2 medium cage rear deraillure has resulted in a smooth drive chain. No dropped chains and quick shifting action from my Sram X9. I converted a 3x to a 1x and haven't looked back. On a side note, I do run a Raceface bash with this chainring to give it added protection.
