Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT SPD Shoe 2014

The Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT shoe is an optimized all-mountain shoe that flirts with the Enduro rider. The lightweight upper repels water and dries quickly in the wettest, muddiest conditions. The Maltese Falcon LT doesn’t merely entail the looks of chic shoes, but utilize Five Ten’s Stealth S1 compound on the rubber outsole to reduce vibration and chatter through the bumps at high speeds, making them just as ideal for hiking as they are pedaling through windy singletrack. Lace up the Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT and bask in comfort and performance on your next mud-filled escapade.

Simply put these shoes rock! Just purchased these a few weeks ago and have already put some serious rides on them. My previous shoes have been the Giro Guage and Code with Carbon sole. I loved the Codes but for all mountain riding and DH I kept destroying them in six months. I finally decided to try something new and figured these fit the bill perfectly. So far I am super impressed with these! I've done numerous rides on them with the longest being a 45 mile epic singletrack ride with 7000ft descending and 3000ft of climbing. I had no problems the whole ride and were super comfortable on and off the bike. I have to admit the sole feels just as stiff as the Giro Code carbon sole. Needless to say I highly recommend these and I think they will last a lot longer then the codes too. The only draw back I can say so far is that you have to cut the bottom rubber off to gain access to the cleats. I wish there could have been a piece that could have been removed and placed back if I wanted to ride with just pedals. Other then that don't hesitate to purchase these!

I bought these shoes to replace a trusty pair of AM45's (2.5 years of abuse) but looking for a lighter "Enduro" type shoe. These shoes were lighter and seemed to have all the relevant pro's I like in a durable MTB shoe. I was wrong. Within 3 months of purchase all the red velcro parts separated from the grey straps. I glued it back with the obvious effect. After just over a year of use the stitching just behind the toe piece are coming loose and I can see it falling apart in a couple more rides. Not cool and certainly not what I expected from Five Ten.

Comments about Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT SPD Shoes:

The shoe is comfortable and I can use it without cleats. Easy to walk in. Not a big fan of laces but they are covered by the Velcro flaps.

Comments about Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT SPD Shoes:

Good sticky sole. Comfortable to walk in. I feel the Five Ten Freerider has more width and a larger toe box though. It's nice that you can position the cleats further back. My only complaint would be the velcro on the straps always snags and attached onto the shoelaces, making them look worn after only a few rides.

Comments about Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT SPD Shoes:

Bought these to replace some Specialized clipless shoes I was sold with my first bike 2 years ago. They seem super light & I like having the velcro to secure the laces down and add a bit of tightness. Because of this though, the bunched up laces under the tightened velcro tend to make tight spots after a few hours of riding.

I had to replace the inserts to get the shoes to fit me a bit better.
I was also originally disappointed that the soles did not contact my VP VX Trails' platforms. Creating a floating, loose feeling. This is apparently because these shoes have a shallower clip box(?) than most shoes and the VX's doing have as much of a platform as most. They worked fine with some crank bro mallets. Full contact.

Overall, would recommend. Get some to try on.

Comments about Five Ten Maltese Falcon LT SPD Shoes:

These shoes strike a perfect balance between efficiency and flexability. They work great with my cb mallets. I am able to clip in easier thanks to a simple yet grippy sole and feel i can move and flex on my pedals better. I had bontrager rhythm shoes prior. A glorified xc shoe. It did ok, but i lacked the dh feel whrn racing in them. The other pro's are a gripy sole that when unclipped grabs better on the spikes of the mallet when u csnt get clipped back in. Also, since enduro is practicslly dh racing at times the shoe offers a lot of protection around the toe and sides.
