Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG

Item #: TI242A01
Qty

The Rocket Ron was designed to be a super lightweight cross country tire. The biting profile handles even the harshest conditions superbly. The completely smooth and even side walls facilitate easy Tubeless filing. The tread produces excellent grip and good self- cleaning. The tubeless ready bead is a specifically shaped and coated tire bead. The bead seats quickly on the rim and provides safer seating. Amazingly, the tire weighs in at 520 grams.

I got a pair of these to lighten up my rig for XC racing. My do all tire is a Kenda Honey Badger which is incredible but a bit heavy and slow rolling.
The Ron's are super light, roll fast and clear mud which can be an issue with race specific tires. They are a narrow 2.2 as such, they knocked around in heavy technical. The Rons are a point, shoot and keep a firm grip on the bar tire. Not that big of a deal once you know to compensate. Also, they have a lower limit in loose over hardpack. You can feel it starting to break away with plenty of warning. The time I wouldn't race them would be on a super technical course. Other than that they are a great set of race treads.

I have purchased many Schwalbe tires in the past and have been very happy. This tire is useless to me. I bought it for a rear tire for a 29er hardtail that I had been running tubeless with an Easton UST wheel. The first Rocket Ron that arrived had a bunch of pin holes at the line where the casing meets the tread, so I called Jenson and they sent me another tire. I believed this tire would be better, so I mounted it with sealant and this tire had more holes all over the sidewall than the first tire. I have installed many tubeless tires and this was by far the worst and after days of messing with it, I gave up and changed back to an older tire. Probably going to return both tires.

Great racing tire, but porous sidewall

By mp

Comments about Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG:

Pros:
• Great tire for XC racing
• Light
• Good and predictable grip in most conditions

Cons:
• the weight is not super-consistent (actual weights of my 4 tires are 504g, 512g, 544g and 580g), the declared weight was 520g
• the sidewalls have pores, which is surprising tubeless ready tires. The pores are easy enough to seal by leaving the tire overnight on each side with sealant inside. But if you need to install the tire and immediately ride - those pores will leak air like crazy.

Overall, great tire, and unbeatable deal from JensonUSA.
Just don't use it as an emergency tire which you may need to install the morning before a race.

Weight it accurate. Around 528 grams. good tire. Needed to put on rim with tube to get shape to stick for several days prior to being able to seat with stans

Comments about Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG:

I would definitely purchase this tire over, and over again ! It's a gripy, sticky, light tire. I have gone over thorns, rocks, and through mud, and it just keeps on going! And it's by far the lightest tire, which helps me climb, that I've ever had on my mountain bike, thanks guys!

Comments about Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG:

I was a little hesitant after reading some of the other reviews, but that was all for nothing. These tire grip and roll with confidence and the tubeless set up was a breeze. Had the tires on and sealed within 15 minutes.

Great when it stays inflated

Comments about Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG:

As mentioned in other reviews, this tire has the multiple sidewall pinholes that requires leaving it overnight on each side before Stans can do it's trick. Since I had read previous reviews this didn't surprise me but it was still a hassle. It finally seems to be holding air and I will give it a second test ride soon and hope the sidewalls last.
The other slight negative: I was hoping this 29 x 2.25 would be wider than the Maxxis 29 x 2.2 I have been using but it looks narrower :(

Comments about Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG:

Phenomenal deal on a light weight, sticky performance tire. Easy tubeless mounting. Great traction in the dry on both packed and loose dirt. A little squirrelly in the wet, particularly on rocks and roots. Overall, a great deal.

Too many pinholes

By chazm

from FL

Comments about Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29" Tire No PCKG:

Very light and supple tire meant for light duty cross country riding. Had to replace a rear tire that was due to my fault, not the tire. However, two of three tires that I purchased had many small pin holes. It took three days and two additions of orange seal to stop the leaks for each tire. Don't know if this is due to the very light/thin sidewall. Very good price but you may have sidewall pin hole hassles during installations.

      A:

This version of the Rocket Ron is actually the older "TL-Ready" model and not "TL-Easy". Both versions are equally tubeless compatible. TL-Easy simply has an updated bead profile.
