Bronze Professional Bicycle Assembly by Jenson USA

Every bicycle sold by Jenson USA includes free assembly by our trained mechanics prior to shipment. The build level will vary based on the bike you select and is identical to the quality work we perform on bicycles sold in-person at our physical locations.

Our Bronze Build is ideal for bicycles that arrive to Jenson USA in "Dealer Ready" condition (this is the same way that bikes arrive to your local bike shop from most major brands - about 90% pre-assembled, but not quite ready to ride). When you select our Bronze build, we will open the manufacturer's box, remove your bike, and place it on a workstand for tuning. This is the "last 10%" that turns a "Dealer Ready" bike into a ready to ride bike. We'll then partially disassemble your bike so that it fits back in the shipping container. Upon arrival, you'll need to unpack and then perform some basic re-assembly tasks to get your new bike ready to ride.

Our Bronze build includes:

  • Tune and check of bikes that arrive at Jenson USA in Dealer-Ready condition
  • General inspection
  • Tune/adjust shifting
  • Tune/adjust brakes

Unpacking and Assembling your new bike

Every bike is slightly diferent, but you will likely need to:

  • Install the pedals
  • Install the front wheel
  • Straighten, then tighten in place the handlebar stem (note: we often turn the fork around 180 degrees so that your bike fits into the shipping container. Upon delivery, it may appear that the fork is "backwards" - but all you need to do it spin it 180 degrees. As always, please call us at (888) 880-3811 if you need any guidance to complete assembly.)
  • Install the seatpost and adjust to height
  • Set tires (and air suspension, if applicable) to your preferred pressure

This video illustrates a typical reassembly. While a Rocky Mountain bike is pictured, most bicycles share a common assembly process regardless of brand.

Getting Help

If you need any guidance to complete assembly, please don't hesistate to contact us. We employ only bicycle experts on our customer support team and they are standing by to assist you.

Caring for your new bike

Every bicycle, from $10 to $10,000 needs ongoing care and maintenance. Cables stretch, brake pads wear, etc. 30 days is a good "break-in" period for most riders. If you're local to Jenson USA, please bring your bike back to us for a complimentary 30-day safety check and tune-up. Not nearby? Don't worry, even just doing the basics will enhance performance and extend the lifespan of your new bike:

  • Always inflate tires to their proper pressure
  • Clean and lubricate your chain on a regular basis
  • Sloppy shifting? You may need to take the slack out of a cable that has stretched, a 60-second repair. Our partners at Park Tool have a great illustrated guide for this procedure.

I found this service to be extremely convenient and was pleased to find out that it was included at no charge. When i recieved my bike, all that had to be done was to install the front wheel, seat post and handlebar. My one big concern was if the brakes had been bled correctly. So far i havent had anything come loose or lost beak pressure. The gears are well adjusted and the bike is extremely lean. Thanks to the bike bulders at JensonUSA.

This aspect of my customer service experience with Jenson was the only let down. As an ebay customer I have a Teal star and have a 100% positive feedback rating. I do not like to complain. BUT...whomever assembled my bike did not complete the checklist which came with the bike or put their name on it for that matter. This attention to detail becomes apparent with closer inspection. A zip tie (pictured) has been substituted as a means to secure the cable for my rear brake. The other cable stays are secured with factory snaps. This signifies a issue that was noted with the rear brake yet nothing was done about it. The rear brake was spongy and practically useless out of the box. I got in touch with Jenson and they offered to pay for a shop to fix it. Unfortunately the nearest shop is a 4 hour drive and I want to be out riding my bike. Hence why I went with Jenson and the Bronze Build in the first place. Jenson sent me a bleeder kit and hinted that a discount or what have you may be in order. The bleeder kit arrived alone...no discount or gift card which I guess I didn't pursue aggressively enough. I have yet to fix my brake as I am not mechanically gifted and haven't found the time as of yet. I feel like Jenson really dropped the ball on this one.

Comments about Bike Build - Bronze Level Assembly:

RR Derailleur B-screw : way, WAY too tight. The chain tension was off the charts too tight.
Chain line: I had to remove the BB and swap the spacer over to the non-drive side. The reason for this was the chain was badly crossed when on the large cog in the rear and the middle ring in the front. It was REALLY noisy and graunchy. It's a little quieter. But still really graunchy on the small and middle rings. The client isn't too concerned with it. But I am, as it sounds like a miss-match of components. Since the crank set middle and small rings are steel the noise and crunkyness you can feel in the pedals and such is very pronounced. I'm hoping it goes away with use. The chain and crank set chain rings are not a good match at all. Which is a little odd as I use RaceFace rings on all my custom builds and they are super forgiving. I am willing to bet with a better quality 10-speed chain and alloy rings it would be a lot smoother.
Middle ring: it was bent and had 2 teeth that were bent. The chain would not shift very easily and hang up when shifting and drop when back-pedaling. I did my best to rectify same. Seems to be hanging in there OK for now.
Front caliper: Way off and dragging badly.
Rear caliper bolts: All 4 were very finger tight.
Wrong style front derailleur for the frame- should be low mount/top swing, frame has a high mount bottom swing and the clamp blocks the bottle cage bolts.
Your ad states it comes with a Maxle, etc. This XC32 fork does not use that set up. Suggest the ad be corrected.
Overall: rate the Bronze Build as VERY VERY POOR.

Comments about Bike Build - Bronze Level Assembly:

The website states that assembly shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Being a fairly skilled mechanic, it took me about an hour and a half. Instructions weren't very clear and I was hoping that it would come in the box like they said it would. This was pretty convenient, but it took more time than it should have.

the bike rides well and is quite capable, especially if you upgrade the fork. mine came with an 80mm travel (advertised as 100mm) Rock Shox XC28 which I promptly upgraded to an XC32. Huge difference. the 32 actually has decent rebound control. because of the great deal on the bike, the cost of the upgrade was still reasonable.

The bike came completely out of adjustment and missing parts. 3 weeks after ordering the bike i received the missing parts to realize the front derailleur was bent and clearly no adjusting had been done on anything. I straightened the derailleur with pliars best i could then took it to a bike shop to tune/adjust everything. They even recommended a new derailleur, but this one will do for now.

The bike came fully built out of the box. I just had to mount the handlebars onto the stem and mount the seatpost onto the frame. Drivetrain was already tuned, shifting like butter, very smooth. The only thing that was left undone was toeing the brake pads, because in their out-of-the box condition they were not toed properly (squealed terribly). Overall a huge timesaver and I'm happy the 2x11 drivetrain was so well adjusted.

I haven't assembled a bike in years (over 20 years) and was really worried about ordering online and dealing with a complicated assembly specifically the final adjustments/tweaks to the derailleur and hydraulic brakes. The Bronze assembly completely eliminated that worry!
The only draw-back was the suggestion of using a torque wrench for the handle bars but not providing the specs for other bolts and frame connections. Also, the video doesn't cover putting the real wheel/chain on the frame.
