Gold Professional Bicycle Assembly by Jenson USA

Every bicycle sold by Jenson USA includes free assembly by our trained mechanics prior to shipment. The build level will vary based on the bike you select and is identical to the quality work we perform on bicycles sold in-person at our physical locations.

When you select our Gold Build, you'll receive our highest-level and most thorough assembly service. A typical Gold Build takes 4-6 hours to complete. This level of service is ideal for bicycles and build kits that arrive to Jenson USA as completely bare frames and parts. We will inspect your new frame, assemble, and tune all components, then partially disassemble it so that it fits in the shipping container. Upon arrival, you'll need to unpack and then perform some basic re-assembly tasks to get your new bike ready to ride.

Our Gold Build includes:

  • Ground-up build starting with a bare frame, full prep, assembly, and tune - our highest level of service.
  • General inspection
  • Tune/adjust shifting
  • Tune/adjust brakes
  • True wheels
  • Hydraulic brake lines shortened, as needed
  • Specify a custom-cut length on steerer tube (available on most bicycles)
  • Installation of any accessories you purchase along with your bike
  • Ability to include your own custom instructions or parts (for example: setting up brakes "moto style" with the left lever operating the rear brake - the opposite of the normal USA standard, adding tubeless tire sealant, changing suspension fork spring weights)
  • Trade-ins available (example: upgrade to a different suspension fork than the one included with a build kit, or switch to a favorite saddle). To arrange trade in parts, please call us at (888) 880-3811 and we'll create a phone order for you. Or, if you prefer, you may order online and then contact us with your order number; we'll modify it with your special assembly instructions.

Unpacking and Assembling your new bike

Every bike is slightly diferent, but you will likely need to:

  • Install the pedals
  • Install the front wheel
  • Straighten, then tighten in place the handlebar stem
  • Install the seatpost and adjust to height
  • Set tires (and air suspension, if applicable) to your preferred pressure

This video illustrates a typical reassembly. While a Rocky Mountain bike is pictured, most bicycles share a common assembly process regardless of brand.

Getting Help

If you need any guidance to complete assembly, please don't hesistate to contact us. We employ only bicycle experts on our customer support team and they are standing by to assist you.

Caring for your new bike

Every bicycle, from $10 to $10,000 needs ongoing care and maintenance. Cables stretch, brake pads wear, etc. 30 days is a good "break-in" period for most riders. If you're local to Jenson USA, please bring your bike back to us for a complimentary 30-day safety check and tune-up. Not nearby? Don't worry, even just doing the basics will enhance performance and extend the lifespan of your new bike:

  • Always inflate tires to their proper pressure
  • Clean and lubricate your chain on a regular basis
  • Sloppy shifting? You may need to take the slack out of a cable that has stretched, a 60-second repair. Our partners at Park Tool have a great illustrated guide for this procedure.

I was looking for an awesome trail bike that I wouldn't want to replace in the next 5 years and my focus was on a Yeti. Previously I'd been riding more of a true full-suspension XC ride and was looking for something more aggressive that could still climb like a beast but that could also go flying down the hill. At first the vision quest for a new trail bike started with the Yeti SB5c. I took it out for a test ride around North Table Mountain (Golden, CO) and it proved to be impressive, but not as much as of nimble climber around the tight cornered switch backs as I was looking for. That's where the Yeti SB4.5c shined, and even more so after they offered a GX build (drive train). The SB4.5c offers a lightweight, nimble trail ride, knows how to handle itself on and off aggressive trails, and comes with just the right amount of slack in the head tube to be equally as good going up as it is going down.

I purchased a complete Niner Jet9 with Sun Ringle Rims, the bike is awesome and I got it for a great deal! Very happy with the bike and the deal. This gold build was included for free. If I had know the poor job they were going to do I would have rather had the bike untouched from the factory. Here's the issues that the assembler caused:
* The stan's rim tape was dented from tire levers, no tears, or holes, but close, if I decide to race this bike I'll have to replace it, as it adds risk.
* Minor scratch in the sticker on the rear wheel, it's just cosmetic, but really?
* Bur in the seat post down tube, scratched the post when installed. hidden, but irritating. Also, no grease on post.
* All torques were questionable, and not checked IMO, probably tightened by "feel"
* No grease on cassette to hub splines, maybe this is just something I do...?
* The signature on the checklist is real, but all the check boxes are pre-filled by the computer, so who knows if these things were really checked or not...?
* Customer service didn't seem to care when I mentioned these things, and I mentioned them twice (2 different instances) hoping they would at least be concerned and possibly suggest they would improve their system... No, just got a very lackadaisical response about it.

On the positive side, the packing was good, the derailler's shifted ok and wheels were true, and also the BB was squared, but I have no way of knowing if these things were done by Jenson or by the factory.

So the bottom line is this: If you don't have any mechanical skills then you may have to buy one of these packages, but I'd spend as little on it as you have to and pay your LBS do the work.

THe bike was such a good deal, I really can't complain much more than this review. I won't stop buying parts from Jenson nor would I not consider getting another bike from them if the price is right, but if I do I'll request no one works on the bike as I have the skill to do all the work myself and even if they had done a good job I still would have gone through it completely myself.

Build was great, very little assembly on my part and every thing went together smoothly. The parts that were together by the bike build were all to torque specs.

Great build marred by one problem.

Comments about Bike Build - Gold Level Assembly:

The gold build was included with my Jenson Custom bike and if not for one mistake would have been great. The padding and packing were impressive - this will survive pretty much anything the shipper can do to it except being run over by the truck. Just put the wheels, pedals, and handlebar on and you are ready to roll. The alignments and adjustments were perfect and everything worked great on my smooth terrain test ride. However, as soon as I hit the trail the bike started shifting and mis-shifting on it's own. After a few days of unsuccessfully trying to adjust the gear indexing I discovered Jenson had misrouted the rear shift cable. The suspension was tugging on the cable and causing the random shifts. Jenson expedited a premium cable kit so I could reroute it and now all is good.
