Arguably one of the least elegant bicycle maintenance tasks involves the removal of headset cups. Suffice it to say that extreme force is needed in this circumstance, so the proper tool is a must when it comes to headset race removal. The Birzman Headset Cup Remover for 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" is the tool you need. Simple to use, too. Just thread the tool backwards through the headset, once you've removed the fork and bearings, so the flared side now faces the bearing race you want to remove. Position the tool so the flares rest on the race from the inside. Strike the top of the tool smartly with a hammer. Bear in mind the proper precautions and things you'll need to accomodate for, when striking a tool that's touching a bicycle, with a hammer. Usually assistance is welcomed for this task.
