CDI Torqcontrol Adjustable Torque Wrench

CDI Torqcontrol Adjustable Torque Wrench

The CDI Torqcontrol Adjustable Torque Wrench is a must have for the discerning home bicycle mechanic, particularly those dealing with high-end carbon and aluminum components. The CDI Torqcontrol's adjustable design allows you to adjust torque settings from 2Nm to 8Nm, a well-thought-out range that covers the adjustment needs of most bicycle parts. The CDI Torqcontrol Adjustable Torque Wrench indexs at every 0.1 (tenth) of a Newton Meter so you can dial in torque settings as precisely as possible. The ergonomic, positive grip L-handle design ensures a firm grip and plenty of leverage and the 1/4" hex magnetic bit shank helps keep bits from wandering off. The CDI brand falls under the umbrella of its parent company, Snap-On Tools, so you know that quality and long-life are at the center of the Torqcontrol's convenient design.

Features:

  • Torque limiting function prevents over-tightening
  • Adjustable scale from 2Nm to 8Nm, indexing at every 0.1 (tenth) of a Newton Meter
  • 1/4" Hex magnetic bit shank with six bits
  • Included bits: Hex: 1" 4mm, 5mm, 6mm and 4" 4mm , 1" T25 and 4" T25
  • Ergonomic, positive grip L-Handle design

A tool that should be in everyone's box
This is an awesome tool that every serious cyclist should have in their tool box. Though I am a bit disappointed in the overall finish on this tool. Right as I pulled mine from the packaging the plastic cover with the torque readout printed on it cracked this doesn't effect the tools ability to work but it's pretty disappointing knowing that this is a Snap On product. As far as torquing bolts down this tool it works beautifully. Maybe Snap On will warranty it.

PROS: Versatile, Easy to Use, Perfect Size

CONS: Poor Quality

BEST USES: Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes

Very handy for most bolts on a bike
I already own two standard torque wrenches but could never really get used to using them quickly on regular cockpit (handlebar) adjustments. Other brands make torque wrenches similar to the CDI Torqcontrol but weren't as adjustable as I wished them to be. That's what really makes this one great. I can adjust the tension between 2nm all the way to 8nm. That covers more than just the cockpit of a bike. The sleek and easy to handle design makes it much easier to use than standard torque wrenches as well.

The only complaint I have is that I'm not able to torque counter clockwise bolts (like the mino links on a Trek full suspension).

This set also comes with the following bits which is nice:
4mm x 1''
5mm x 1''
6mm x 1''
T25 x 1''
4mm x 4''
T25 x 4''

All and all, I am quite happy with this torque wrench.

PROS: Easy to Use, Durable, Clear Nm Gauge, Extra Bits

CONS: No Counterclockwise Opt

Torqued
This is a really nice tool to have in the box. Easy to use and perfect range for all but the larger bolts on the bike. I would highly recommend this unit.

Great for mountain bikes
This is the best tool in my box for mountain bikes. Torquing all the little screws and bolts involved with mountain bikes is easy with this tool. It's also very handy as just a tool without torquing. Had no issues at all.

Repairing Threads is Always Harder Than Tightening Correctly
Proper torque is essential. With modern materials, it has become TOO easy to over torque mounting hardware. This causes failures of seat posts and handle bars. But over torque also damages threads or outright strips the threads, necessitating thread inserts if you're not lucky. All of this is totally avoidable with a torque driver, and Snap On is one of the most trusted names in industry.

I like the micro-graduated dial and handle
I have several preset-value Park T-handle torque wrenches and a variable ratchet-style torque wrench. I like the CDI and the Park style of wrench better because you can apply downward force using the handle, unlike ratchet-style wrenches. This is useful for installing smaller bolts and cleat screws so you don't round them out. The CDI scale is easy to read and it goes all the way down to 2 Nm, which the Park preset tools do not. This is nice for small bolts and screws with low torque specs.

Does the job
bought this tool to prevent damaging the thin-walled frames of by bicycles. It does the job. It would be better if it had a ratcheting action instead of having to reseat the driver in the fastener multiple times to work in a confined space.
