Cane Creek Thudbuster LT Seatpost

3G - the 3rd generation of Thudbuster seatposts from Cane Creek. A full 3 inches of travel with a preload adjustable, two-stage elastomer shock. Quality construction with an aluminum mast and links. The 3G features a forged linkage with wider-spaced bushings to increase lateral stiffness and a micro-adjust seat clamp. Split link arms enable ease of disassembly in the field, and simple bushing replacement. Lusting after a full-suspension ride, but just can’t afford it right now? The Thudbuster is a great stopgap solution, adding additional comfort and control to your hardtail.

  • Kit includes:1 soft, 2 medium, and 1 firm elastomer. Mix them to fine tune for your rider weight.
  • 75mm of travel
  • Weight: 545 grams (27.2mm)

This was among the many upgrades I had on my previous 29er that was stolen a couple of months ago. When I received my replacement 29er all of the parts were much upgraded from what ii was used too on my old bike...except the seat and post. I went on a 20 mile trail ride the first Saturday and it took me about 5-6 days to let my butt heal! So the first Monday after that ride I went to Jenson in Riverside and picked-up my thudbuster. I never realized (or just took for granted) how well this thing works until I went without it. My 29er is a hard tail and I am not interested in a full suspension bike since I like to ride a lot of technical trails with uphill challenges. The Thubbuster does not have a lot of travel but it works extremely well with what it provides. I highly recommend this unit for an upgrade to your hard tail bike!

Ordering System did not allow me to nominate that I wanted two black elastomers and I was surprised that the postage was extra to Australia. Now I am using the Seatpost it flexes too much and really needs firmer Elastomers to manage my weight.

Comments about Cane Creek Thudbuster LT Seatpost:

I had this installed for over year now and still works really well. Since I moved from full suspension to hard tail, this helps a lot during the transition. Highly recommended, specially for those who do a lot of endurance ride. I'm hoping they will improve the design for future model and cut some weight, a bit heavy for lighter frame imho. Otherwise I love it.

Comments about Cane Creek Thudbuster LT Seatpost:

If you have trails with mega roots in your area and you have a hard tail this might be the right seatpost for you. (or you have a bad back) The drawbacks to the seatpost are:
1. Its heavier than a standard non-shock post
2. It raises the center of gravity on the bike (not a great thing)

I switched this out eventually for a carbon seatpost with a nice setback but i did like it when i had it.

I am a recreational mountain biker. That goes once a week out for a 20 to 25 mile ride. I took the thudbuster to a marathon recently near 55 mile ride and made the difference. Great for my lower back and not to heavy that makes it a no brainier for those with entry level hard tail mountain bikes.

Comments about Cane Creek Thudbuster LT Seatpost:

Its over double the weight of what you might take on race day... But its NOT a race day seatpost. Its for EVERY other day! This thing takes the hits for you.

After installing, I rode all my usual trails and single tracks, and was able to stay comfortably seated for MOST of the parts I'd be standing. And even while standing, leaning backward into the seat with my thighs, acted as shock absorber. I love this thing!

I'm 173lbs, and use the blue/grey elastomer combo (upto 165lbs).

Might get one of these for my Dad, as the only reason he's looking at full suspension is his back.
