Continental Der Baron Projekt 27.5" Tire

Continental Der Baron Projekt 27.5" Tire

If you’re ready to take your enduro game to the next level of dangerous, the Continental Der Baron is worth a thorough gander. Formerly known as the “Rain King,” Continental quickly realized that this tire was suited for much more than merely the wet conditions that the old name might have implied. In actuality, this tire has been proven to perform in everything from soft and wet to loose and rocky conditions.

Many have found the rounded profile to work particularly well as a front tire, however this purely personal preference. With a fairly-open, symmetrical pattern, the Der Baron deals with rough landings without complaining and rolls easily enough to carry speed going both up and down, while its dual-ply casing with Apex puncture protection and Black Chili compound keep the sidewalls supported under aggressive cornering and effectively prevents punctures.

Features

  • Black Chili Compund: Offers pmroved rolling resistance and mileage along with efficient rolling
  • ProTection Tubeless Ready insert and Apex stiffening provides excellent puncture resistance and maximum stability Versatile tread pattern: Provides good rolling characteristics and a sporting weight

    Amazing grip!
I was using Continental Trail Kings (2.4) entire season (from early spring until late fall) in all conditions - wet, muddy, dry, very dry, loose, hard, rocks, wood, ladders, roots (North Shore trails) and there were amazing. Wear was ok, lasted very long, had some problems setting them tubeless, but at the end it was not that bad.

Decided to give Der Barons a try and..they are even better! Cannot comment on wear (I just had couple rides), but they have much more grip on wet stuff - especially roots and ladders. They seem to be little bit smaller (volume) than Trail Kings, but not much. Setting them tubeless was not a problem at all. I used only floor pump and both wheels are holding pressure from day one - I used Continental sealant.

Since Trail Kings felt better than Maxxis Minions DHF and DHR, Der Barons feel way better than Maxxis (just personal opinion).

I can definitely recommend them. But if you are looking for a tire with big volume for extra cushioning, I would go with Trail Kings, unless you ride in really wet conditions.

Not as wide as a trail king 2.4. And less volume. Sidewalls are also less beefy than the trail king. Very rounded profile on 24?mm internal rim width. Nice rear tire but not the best for Phoenix / South Mountain
