The Mountain King was redesigned for 2011. The Mountain King II has beefy shoulder lugs which create more void toward the center lugs, making cornering exceptional. Continental also spruced up the Mountain King by infusing it with their signature Black Chili compound. Black Chili improves tires in all realms of performance. Black Chili produces 26% lower rolling resistance, 30% higher grip, and lasts about 5% more miles.

Like other poster, I was completely disappointed in the size of this tire. My Specialized "The Captain" 2.2's are significantly larger than the Mountain King 2.4. Plus The Captain's have a bigger and better ground footprint to-boot.

The 29inch 2.4" actually measures 2.2" wide. My Niner RIP 9 came with RacingRalphs and I bought the MountainKings because I prefer to run fatter tires with lower pressures. The Kings are no wider than the Ralphs. Now I have 2 sets of 'skinny' tires. If you want to go fat on your 29'er, these tires won't do it.
