Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

I have a mixed review for this tire. I gave it a modest 3 Stars. It is still a decent tire. We all have different riding styles and terrain that we ride so it may be hard to find that one right tire based on reviews.

I live in the San Diego area and So Cal is known for it's decomposed granite trail (DG) for short. We have a lot of those granulated rock trails making them loose on bikes, but still good riding stuff all around.

I ride a hard tail full carbon 26in GT Zaskar and was looking to upgrade speed and performance. I do alot of climbing and cross country. I went with the Race King 2.2's after a good recommendation.

Pros - They perform very well in the open cross country trails and may increase your speed by 1 to 2 mph. Again, no complaints there. If you have a race coming up with mostly C/C riding in it this could be a good choice. The shollow tread just flies across some good hard pack. Downhills, just hang on. You will notice a bit more speed in the downhills as well so be careful. Think that's why I went through a set of brake pads as well.

Cons- The cons I noticed are the tread does seem to wear down rather quick and this affects riding, cornering, and some switch backs. Riding some loose dirt trails that may be off canter or going into turns the same way I noticed some slipping and have even gone down and over a few times. When going down rugged down hills with the worn tread I am on the brake alot. They are starting to slip and wash out on me.

With that said it is still a good tire. I just think that once you have crossed that thresh hold of tread wear down it's time to replace them. I have about 500 miles on them and my local bike shop thinks maybe a few hundred more. No way. With my kind of riding and terrain at 500 miles that's it and that's why I am now looking for another pair. Again this is why I gave it 3 Stars. They are still good but not an off the chart tire. I hope this helps.

Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

Easily the best all round tire I've tried. Great for my local trails and even rolls fast/lasts long on the road. I've read that's it hassle to set up tubeless. I'm using mine with tubes. Sidewalls are very thin but most Conti tires are.

Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

I use these on my race wheelset. My local mechanic suggested I get the 2.2 supersonics and even let me borrow his set for a week before I bought. Well worth every penny spent-even if they aren't great as a tubeless conversion.

Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

Thought I would splurge on a pair of these babies. Running Supersonic 2.0 on front and rear. Super fast! Great traction on dry or damp hardpack, haven't tried them in the wet yet.
Replaced a pair of Kenda small block 8's with these and am very happy.

Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

These are great tires for LIGHT cross country. They are fast and rolling resistance is very low. Good tires for combination on and off road. Even though these tires are light weight, they have held up well. Be warned- these are not for deep sand, mud, steep hills, down hill, free ride, carving turns, wet roots or technical trails. You will lose traction, slide, spin out, ect if you push these tires too far. If you are a casual rider who likes to ride light trails and road-these are the tires for you!!!! I rate these tires a 5 if used for there intended use- light XC .

      Supersonics:These...

      By Tyler

      from Tyler@Bikerumor.Com

Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

Supersonics:These tires have great grip and I love how easily they roll in and out of a turn. They track like magnets on sheet metal. Protections: I’ve got nothing bad to say about the Race Kings. They’re light, fast and grip well. I requested the 2.0 size because I’m a weight weenie and at first wished I had gone with the 2.2. But after four or five rides, the narrower size proved it had plenty of traction under my 6'2? 178lb frame. Conti recommends running 50psi (max 65 psi) in their non-UST models, but I ran 35 to 38psi (and probably on occasion was running it lower than that) and didn’t flat a single time in seven months! For my size and weight and the speed at which I ride, that’s saying something…especially with all the roots and rocks. For more details on this review check out: http://www.bikerumor.com/2009/11/19/review-continental-race-king-mountain-bike-tires/

      I used the 2

      By Tim

      from San Diego, Ca Usa

Comments about Continental Race King 26" Tire:

I used the 2.0 SS on the rear and 2.2 SS on the front. Bought the SS black chilis and used Stan's Notubes. It took a little extra time to get them sealed, but it worked. The tires are light, weigh less then claimed weight. Very good racing tire, they spin up fast and easy. I raced them in Whistler, B.C. and Las Vegas with no traction problems. The 2.2 is great, I couldn't brake it loose even when trying. The 2.0 on the rear is good, but can lock up, and knobs wear quickly. I'd buy again.
