These are known as "the tires on police bikes" which is how I got in the habit of buying them. I wore out a pair in size 1.9 and noticed the gumwall fraying as the tread was about done. Replaced them with 2.1 (noticeably heavier) and the sidewalls went way before the tread did. And for a compromise tire, they are decidedly biased towards pavement. I traded my third pair of T&C for a pair of Continental's own Traffic model, which works much better on dirt while still wearing well on pavement.

Good tire but pretty prone to flats from little glass and stuff. I really don't recommend it for city riding as I have been let down too many times with small punctures from glass and whatnot.
