Continental X-King Sport 29" Tire

Continental X-King Sport 29" Tire

Its developers say it can do anything! Its riders say, “That’s my tyre!”

Super fast, but nevertheless with a good grip, the X-King was developed with the Topeak Ergon mountain bike professional team in Germany, and bred on XC courses all over the world. Despite pronounced studs, the X-King rolls off smoothly and very quietly. It's equally at home on the race course or out on the trails. Its lightweight carcass and supple construction was built for speed and cornering prowess.

Please note, these tires are not rated for Tubeless use.

Great for the money
Great tire for the money. Good all-around tread pattern for varied conditions. I ride mainly rocks, hardpack, and loose over hard here in Northern Colorado and this tire is a good all around choice. These are the cheaper 'Made in India' Continentals but they work just fine. The rocks we have here destroy tires so I don't like to spend much on them. Weight is around 700 grams and durability is pretty good. No complaints about grip. These run narrow and the "2.4" actually measures out to just under 2.2 when inflated on my Haven rims (21mm internal) with 30-40 psi. I'm still on tubes because tubeless has let me down too many times so I can't comment on their tubeless sealing ability.

Don't buy for tubeless
The Continental X-king and Mountain King are defective for tubeless use. I bought 26 inch and 29 inch tires before I figured out why I was having continuous flat problems. There is an area near the bead that is too thin and eventually forms a 1/2 inch slit just at the rim interface and it leaks when disturbed by rock strikes. three of the 4 tires had to be removed because they would not stay inflated. On tire is in use because I was able to get enough Stan's fluid in there to make it functional, but it continuously weeps and the fluid keeps adding up. Otherwise, the tread is great. It has great traction and wear performance, so if you use tubes, it's probably a good tire for you.

CONS: Defective

Great tread. Measures a little smaller.
Great tire. I love the X-King tread. I use the smaller version on my cx bike. Was a bit disappointed to find it measured closer to 2.125" on a 23mm internal rim. I have some wider rims coming in this week, hopefully it gets closer to that 2.4 that it says on the casing!

Continental X-King Sport 29" Tire
If it tells ya anything, I just replaced my worn out X-king with a new X-king. It's a great all around tire (except for mud, it doesn't do well in mud).

Love this tire
Finally made the jump to a wider tire. The difference between 2.2 and 2.4 is awesome. Love the extra grip I get with this tire.

Are these folding tires?
A shopper on Apr 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm not totally clear on the question. The come folded in a box when shipped. They have a continuous bead so that leads me to say no.
Are these tubeless ready?

Smokin deal for a fast ass rolling tire
I have a bike which originally came with a set of 700 x 40C Puncture-Resistant Kenda Cross tires (28") but I replaced the wheels for a set of 29 American Classic wheels with 700x32c tires on them. I want to replace the tires for a wider set. Will these tires fit my 29" wheels?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The continental tires are narrower relative to the kendas and scwhalbe tires i own. On the same rim the 2.4 conti is the same width as a 2.2 kenda slant 6 and the 2.25 racing ralph. These would measure appropriately 700c 56. This would work fine on your rim but may not fit your frame. You may want to test it with a used 29 tire or measure your frame. I suspect a 29 2.0 would barely fit. Like i said conti tires are narrow realive to other brands ice used so if a kenda 2.0 fits then a conti 2.0 would work. A conti 2.2 may also fit because it would likely be the same width as a kenda 29 2.0
Is this tire supposed to be fitted in the front, rear or is it universal? Also, my Specialized Camber 29er bike came with very narrow rims, it says ETRTO 622x19, making the standard Specialized Purgatory/Ground Control 2.30" wide ties look a lot narrower. Would these tires work for such narrow rim without any issue?
A shopper on Apr 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have them fitted to the front and rear of my Cannondale Trail 29 single speed on the OEM Stans ZTR Rapid wheels and they fit fine and have finally sealed well enough to be reliable as tubeless tires.
In my opinion, though, I think the X-King Sport 2.4 is not a good front tire, especially when run at lower pressures.
Anything less than 30psi has the tire digging in too much and sending me in directions I do not want to go. I have to run it at 30 or 32psi minimum in order for the tire to steer correctly.
Other than this, it's been a good tire, but I will eventually swap the front for something more predictable.
What's the part number of this tyre ?
