Crank Brother’s aimed to create a stronger pedal; therefore they feature an aluminum CNC-d body with steel wings. The watertight and airtight internal parts make for very little maintenance required.

Good Pedal, but not for me
I was always a Shimano guy and figured on the next bike I built I would try something new. I went with the Orange Candy 3's to match the race face atlas handlebar. The pedals are very good, easy to get into and don't clog up. I just don't seem to like them though. I love the deep locked in feeling that I get from the SPD style pedals a lot more. They're great overall all but not for me.

PROS: Mud shielding, Design, Ease of entry

    CONS: Too loose

    Second pair
This is my second pair of these. The first pair, after about 5 years on my mountain bike without any maintenance, needed a bit of a tune-up. I got the service kit, cleaned them up, and put them on my commuter/road bike. The new pair went on my mountain bike, and now that I know that there is a service kit, these will hopefully stay for another 5 years or more.

I like the pedals because I feel like Crank Brothers dialed in the entry/exit force very well. There are times when I do come out of the pedal when I don't want to, but more often than that, I appreciate the ability to get out of the pedal when I'm cornering hard and slide a bit and need to put a foot down.

Unless something new hits the market, I don't see myself trying a different pedal for a long while.

    Can't Beat Crank Bros...
I finally replaced my original 4-year old pair of Candy 3's on my primary bike. The best part of the Crank Brothers Candy pedals is you can easily service them yourself with a <$10 service kit. I serviced my last pair of pedals once or twice each season, and they've performed flawlessly. They're still in good enough shape to use, so I moved them to my single speed! You can't go wrong with these pedals!

    Third Time's a Charm?
When I first started mountain biking, I tried the eggbeater 2 and ended up returning them. I had difficulty getting clipped in and lead to a few crashes on the trail. I decided to try these as it was time to replace my road bike peddles and with quite a few bikes in my fleet, I was looking for an all around solution. From the very first ride, I just loved these peddles. No issues clipping in or out. I think the platform really helps. As a side benefit, I have had absolutely no hot foot issues. I have since put them on my road and mountain bikes and not looking back. I can wear my mountain shoe and no more clunking around with road shoes and cleets. Durability is yet to be seen. But with the rebuild kit available, I don't see that as a problem. I think Crank Bros finally got them right at a decent price point.

PROS: Easy Secure Clipping, Great looks, minimal weight, Good Platform Support

    CONS: None so far

    Love these pedals!
This is my second pair of these pedals. After 6 years on my mountain bike and effectively zero maintenance, one of the bearings on the first pair isn't rolling as smooth as it should. i bought the rebuild kit, used it (it's great), and will use those old pedals on my commuter/road bike, even with a little bit of stickiness in the bearing.

The new ones are going on the mountain bike, and I'll give them a little bit more TLC with all of the abuse that they get. Installation is a breeze, entry is easy, exit is easy if you hit a patch of loose dirt and need to clip out immediately. I don't think I'll ever go back to SPDs.

    Solid Pedals
I'm on my third season with a set of Candy 3 pedals. I have dissambled and greased them a few times but other than that they have been flawless. They have taken many hits on rocks and roots and never broken or let me down. I think I have come unclipped from a hit twice. They work very well in the mud and snow too. I plan to put a rebuild kit in them and keep using them.
