Good pedal for the money, have been using these on an XC oriented mountain bike and a road bike. I've easily put over 2000 miles on the pedals installed on the road bike in 2010. They still spin smooth and engagement and release is still smooth.

These pedals are very good for the price. Their main flaw is that they do not have the same bearings as the 2 and 3's. They are a good pedal to try if you are not sure about if you will like the CB entry and exit. I have just upgraded to the 3's and now use the 1's on my road bike. Excelent product, poor bearing choice.

"Give Egg Beaters a crack & you won't go back!" Going on 7 years on my mountain bike, 4 years on my Tri-bike. 4-sided entry ensures clipping in the first time, every time. Especially helpful for re-entry from technical single track dabs or bikes that cross busy intersections from a dead stop. No more scurrying down stair drops or across that intersection with only one foot clipped in! Provided cleats can be flip flopped to allow 15 or 20 deg of float. Saved my knees, big time!

These pedals are priced very well and work super easy. I've only had 3 rides on them so far, but love how they work. Easy to clip in and out of. I obviously do not have any long term use experience, but the initial impression is great.

I have had a pair of egg beaters for over 10 years and they are still used to this day, great for all purposes as long as you have a stiff shoe to go with them.

Although Crank Brothers market this pedal mostly for mountain biking, I've bought it and installed it on a road bike to match Candy SL installed on my mountain bike (no need to have different shoes for each bike IMO).
So far I have only good things to say about this pedal: It is quite light for the price paid, it is very easy to clip in and out and it also seems quite robust for an entry level pedal (but only time will tell, I'm still on my first season with it).
My only complain is that Crank Brothers charge a premium price for extra cleats (1/3 of the whole pedal price).

Super easy, simple design. Replaced SPD pedals on my Cross bike. In and out are easy and fast. No tension adjust as springs wear and break-in. Not sure it will be needed but.....
Overall they are great pedals at a great price point.
