Park Tool CNW-2 Chainring Nut Wrench

This handy tool fits securely into the slots on the reverse side of a chainring bolt so it doesnt spin while you loosen the bolt. Designed specifically for the job, the revised CNW-2 (replaces CNW-1) makes removing chainring bolts much easier.

Park Tool CNW-2 Chainring Nut Wrench Features

  • Double-ended to fit most slotted-type nuts
  • The outer width of both ends of the CNW-2 are nominally 12mm wide
  • One end has a two outer tips nominally 2.7mm wide each, and the other end has tips of 3.8mm each
  • The blade thickness is nominally 1.35mm

This tool works. But not in every situation. There are times when the female "bolt" installs more than flush with the male "nut." This makes seating the tool very tricky, especially if the chainring bolts are at all frozen in place. As with a previous reviewer, I too have lost some knuckle skin extracting stubborn bolts with this tool.

I wish there were a more fool-proof solution, but until then, grease your chainring bolts and buy this tool!

I expected better quality from a company like Park Tool. This tool is made out of flimsy sheet metal, doesn't even appear to be hardened. That said it does get the job done and is handy to have in the tool box. It definitely beats using a screwdriver.

While this is a useful tool it is only partially effective. Not sure if its the tool or the ring bolts but it is the only thing out there for the job.

Sold a frame which included the cranks I tried to remove my chain rings prior to sell with no luck. Ended up giving my chain ring with my single ring bolts with sell. Wish I had the the chain ring tool!

I've had this for a couple years now and have used it on my mountain, fixed gear and cyclocross bikes without any issues. No bending, the finish remains intact and it gives more leverage than a screwdriver ever did for me. Thanks again, Park Tool!
