    Super bright light

Comments about Cygolite Hotshot 2W USB:

I use this light for commuting. It's bright even in the day time. I like the variety of blinking modes it has but I only use the strobe mode since that one seems like a good waker-upper. I have a rack on my bike so the seat post mounting position is not a good option for me. Since I ride multiple bikes anyway, I felt the best option for me was to mount to the back of my helmet. I believe you can purchase a separate kit for that but zip ties work fine for me. The light is fairly directional though, but I think I've got it at an angle that is directed well enough at traffic behind me.

The charging port is the ubiquitous mini USB port that is used on many other lights and devices and that was a big selling point for me. I can charge it up easily at work or at home without packing a charger.

One minor thing I don't like about this light is that to turn it off, you have to hold down the on button for at least two seconds. Although in concept that seems reasonable, the button is small and its rubber cover gives it a squishy action that requires some finesse to use, especially difficult if you're wearing gloves.

Overall though, I'm pretty happy with this light.

Comments about Cygolite Hotshot 2W USB:

When I recently resurrected my MTB that had been sitting for almost a decade, I was pleasantly surprised that my old CatEye tail light still worked. Because I frequently get off of work late at night, I consider a tail light a safety necessity. Unfortunately, the old CatEye only kept working for 3 weeks, becoming a perfect excuse to get a newer, brighter, rechargeable tail light.

Enter the Hotshot. The Hotshot is considerably brighter than my old CatEye was, has multiple blinking modes, is bright enough for daytime use, and has a mini-USB port makes recharging easy. There's also variable blink speeds if you demand blinking perfection.

The Hotshot may be the best tail light overall, but it isn't perfect. It is extremely directional, so you must be certain it is facing straight backwards. I would not recommend using the included clothing clip, as the movements of you and your bag may move the light out of the optimum field of view of approaching motorists. The lack of a seat stay mount may be a deal breaker for some of those with certain luggage racks and seatpost bags. There is a luggage rack mount available from Cygolite, but the lack of a seat stay mount is a strange oversight for an excellent light.
