best kids bicycle money can buy
by far the best kid's road-bike money can buy at this price/value level.
purchased the bike at local bike shop but review is warranted because there is barely any here and the bike deserves them.
going with pro/con styling
Pros:
-Shifters - large (some might see it as a con on child's bike) therefore it was very easy for my son to learn and easily shift both the rear and front.
-derailleurs - the Claris groupset is precise, responsive QUIET and evenly spaced for proper power application between gears.
-brakes - large (adult levers) make it easier for a child to apply brakes - the top levers help tremendously during the transition period
-discs- eliminate issues with mud on rimms (kids will ride through water/mud on purpose.
-frame and fork - aluminium but my boy did not complain about the stiffness or road vibrations - he was delighted that he can lift the bike on his own
-weight of the bike is roughly 22 lbs. not light considering small frame but NOT heavy by any account (his old bike was steel and weight was 46 lbs)
-seat is of road bike style and has nice amount of padding only time will tell if it'll stay on there
-tires are narrow (not slicks) but studded for more than just road grip
-bearings must be of decent quality because the wheels free spin for quite a while
-bottom bracket crank seems OK (quiet and smooth operation)
this thing uses skewers on both wheels awesome idea if one ever gets a flat as less tools are required to make necessary repairs.

CONS:
-pedals are large studded plastic type (resin) replaced with junior resin stud-less pedals of half the size.
-cables are barely attached (clips are used to attach casing to the frame clips broke on first ride (black wire-ties did a great job and will stay longer)
-no kick stand - i get that this is road / cyclocross type bike but really ????? kid's bike with no kick stand just gets thrown (installed 10$ kickstand on chain-stay)

overal this is by far best kid bike money can buy. group-set is no the money and precise. shifting is easy and exact (one click one gear both directions) - my son (8YO) transitioned from Walmart bike to this in less than 15 minutes - he used all 8 lower gears on first ride and started using big chain ring - on the second long ride he has not once went into lower chain ring - first ride 15.7 miles (but hurts but not legs) avg speed 8.8 MPH - second ride 22 miles (but + legs hurting) avg speed 9.7 MPH (on old bike record was 11 miles with severe pain in legs + bottom and average speed 6.8 MPH) but hurts less with every ride and my boy is talking about doing 40 mile ride before the summer gets here - making me a very proud PAPA.

long story short if your child is tall enough to fit this bike - and you want to go faster than SNAIL on your next ride with less torture for your child buy this bike - best 370 bucks i ever spend.
