Diamondback Steilacoom RCX Pro Bike 2013

Diamondback's home base is located in the Pacific Northwest, home to some of the wettest, muddiest, and gnarliest terrain in the world. With so much experience riding in the kind of conditions cyclocross is known for, Diamondback set out to create a lean, mean cyclocross machine: one that sheds mud, portages easily, and crushes any choppy terrain in its path. The Steilacoom RCX Pro features a light and stiff platform—via BB30—that provides more acceleration and control while pedaling out of the saddle, a flatter top tube for easy portage, and meticulously dialed cyclocross specific geometry to give you an extra edge.

At the core of the Steilacoom RCX Pro is the DBR CX Pro Spec Fully Butted 7005 Alloy Competition Cyclocross frame with formed top tube and an integrated tapered headtube. The frame, both light and durable, is what most look for in a cross bike. It’s well-equipped to tackle any single track, mud field, sand pit, staircase, hurdle or inclement weather between the starting gate and the finish line. Paired with the frame is a DBCX Carbon Monocoque fork. With a carbon steerer and clearance enough for larger tires and fenders, this fork helps to save weight and provides strength up front for exceptionally responsive steering capabilities.

The Steilacoom RCX Pro's component setup is decked out with an impressive SRAM build. The drivetrain features: 10 speed 1070 cassette, PC-1071 chain, Force derailleurs and doubletap shifters, and SRAM’s S950 crankset with carbon monocoque arms with BB30 technology—for a lightweight and extremely stiff pedaling platform. Once you’re up to speed, the TRP Shorty V-brakes provide the stopping power that tearing up the course calls for. The lightweight Easton EA90 Aero deep profile rims are laced to Easton’s EA90 Hubs and wrapped with Michelin Cyclocross Mud 2 700×30c tires. Gluttons for punishment, these wheels are sure to see you through any situation. The cockpit is outfitted with FSA SLK carbon compact handlebars, stem, seatpost, and topped off with the WTB Silverado Team saddle. You can admit it, this bike is a stone cold stunner.

Comments about Diamondback Steilacoom RCX Pro Bike 2013:

I'll get the primary "con" out of the way...brakes need to be replaced. The TRP V-brakes are so spongy as to be unusable. Switched out to Avid Short 6, huge improvement.

This bike is such a good deal it's kind of ridiculous. I got the 2013 b/c it was 10-speed so it's lined up with all my other wheel sets/cassettes. The Force group and wheel set cost about what i paid for the full bike and it's like I got the FSA SLK, saddle, tires and frame thrown in free. It's light (19.7 w/ pedals and one Taco cage) and very quick handling. I haven't raced it for real yet but have ridden a bunch of our teams early AM training races and it's pretty great. Have also done a 50 mile, mostly fire road "gentlemen's" race and some double and mellow single track. AND, have commuted w/ it. Very versatile.

Last note: I switched the 36 tooth to a 34 tooth chain ring to provide more spin in the steeps or hilly mud.
