We live in a time when the word “hybrid” gets tossed around a lot. These days when you hear the word “hybrid” chances are it referring to a gas-efficient car that has the ability to run on electricity. This time around the word “hybrid” is referring to the EC70 SL hybrid clincher road wheel. What makes the EC70 SL a hybrid wheel? It utilizes a mix of EC70 carbon fiber and high-grade EA90 aluminum to create a wheelset that oozes impressive aerodynamics, superb braking and minimal weight. Don’t let the stealthy look of the EC70 SL fool you, look closely and you’ll quickly discover a rim with a massive 42 millimeter deep profile for slicing through the wind and an “H” section alloy extrusive co-molded to a structural carbon rim to provide the kind of braking power that only comes with an aluminum surface. The recessed spoke nipples further augment aerodynamics. The EC70 SL is equipped with the all new EastonV5 hubs which feature sealed cartridge bearings, an alloy freehub and J-bend Sapim stainless steel spokes. Like most wheels in Easton’s extensive line-up, the EC70 SL is entirely hand-built and acoustically tuned so it stays straight and true longer.
