I'm primarily an xc racer so I never wear backpacks, but a trip to Bend OR had me needing a 100oz bag. I tried on Osprey & Camelbak at my LBS, but didn't like how high they sat on my back/shoulders or how sloppy most of the straps are when synched. I decided to try Ergon based on the limited positive reviews I read online and pics from their website. After 4 days of 5hr rides I would recommend Ergon bags. The BX3 is comfortable and the straps are kept clean while wearing. The BX3 is plenty big enough for long days in the saddle and so far seems very durable. Tip: Ergon doesn't make bladders anymore, but I just used a 100oz Camelbak bladder and it worked great.
PROS: Ergonomic, Versatile, Durable, Lightweight, Easy to Use
I got it for cool back commuting. The design and materials seem to be top shelf, but I returned it in favor of something a bit larger. If I weren't trying to haul so much stuff around on my back like a rolling donkey, it would have been perfect.
Ergon makes great stuff, and this bag seemed to built up very nicely. Quality fasteners, zippers, etc. all around, lots of adjustability, especially with the expansion zipper to add an extra 3L of capacity when you need it. Smallitem pockets are easy to access and plentiful.
I can't speak for the comfort or ventilation of the back panel (seemed like it would work well) as I found a 19L bag to not be large enough for my commuting/gym needs, so I returned it before using it.
If Ergon made a 25L bag, I would snap it up in a heartbeat. The material is pretty light weight (think tent style nylon) which saves weight, but not too sure how long it would last as a dedicated trail bag.
