"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us- by that God we both adore-
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore-
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore."
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." - Edgar Allan Poe

Five Ten Raven Shoes 2013

The Five Ten Raven was designed as a clipless shoe disguised as an all mountain shoe. “‘Prophet!’ said I, ‘thing of evil!’” The Five Ten Raven may look simplistic aesthetically, however, like Poe’s Raven, is quite complex. The unique nylon shank helps increase torsional support and control, while offering tremendous weight savings. The high end ankle protection provides support as well during gnarly trail riding. Shoe laces are covered with an asymmetrical lace protection flap, which ensures they don’t get stuck in your crankset. Most importantly, it’s budget friendly. Nevermore.

  • SPD (2 hole) compatible
  • Stealth Rubber Sole

Living in an area where it's almost easier to earn your turns, these shoes spent most of their time clipped into some CrankBros Mallet Dhs, churning away on my 6" RM Slayer. The Raven
s also saw duty on rocky, steep trails aboard my Intense M9.

These shoes were ridden on several hot days, and have taken their fair share of rock/stick/tree strikes; through all of this they have held beautifully. Sure, the shoes get a touch sweaty, and the foot feel is a bit chunky; but the wrap design and carbon construction create a shoe you could safely ride on a world cup track while still affording reasonable enough cooling and articulation to facilitate any kind of ride you come across.

The padding strap which covers the laces is thick stitched synthetic leather. The strap is relatively thin, but fairly confidence-inspiring as your foot takes on an even more "armored" feel. This feeling, however, does not provide the breathability you would want for frequent use in an application like Cross-Country. Though these shoes could get you through in a pinch, they are certainly not any kind of shoe you would want if ventilation is a primary concern.

Overall, this shoe is built like a tank, is moderately slim considering the protection, and grips fantastically. If you need a little beef in your diet, this is the SPD boot for you.

I bought these shoes to wear on flat pedals and eventually with spd's however felt they were really bulky and overly uncomfortable. There is little padding so you really feel the carbon plate and get pain and numbness in your foot quite quickly, especially if off of your bike and walking even for just a few minutes. Once on the bike the pain would dissipate but they were still quite heavy and bulky.

Bought for only one reason...to stick to my flat pedals, I almost forget that i am not clipped in. I did not buy them for style, but for 5/10 quality, stiff sole and stick to the pins on my flat pedals. Does the Job it was intended for.

These shoes are good for Mountain Biking, as they are designed for. They are a little on the heavy side, and take some getting use to when you are use to wearing a light weight tennis shoe. the tread sticks great to the pedals, have not use them with clipless yet, but going to soon.

Bought these for use on my flat pedals when in the bike park and they are great for that. I never intended to use them clipless. I wanted a firmer sole than my non clipless Five Tens as i figured they would give more support under the foot when you are standing on the pedals all day in the park, and they do plus they grip the pedals really well with their sticky rubber.

I used this shoes for XC and all mountain biking. Every off duty I bike 36km pave and rough trail on hot and humid weather here in Qatar. Lil bit hot and heavy but it protect my foot from sand goin inside. Heavy when you dismounted, hot because of the flap. I used cleats on it and it was just like using a flat pedal on a small Shimano SPD pedals . Easy to stalled the cleats just cut the border line under the sole and walla.

I have these shoes paired with Wellgo Wam 10DH Hybrid pedals and so far they seem great. Only three rides in and I can see why people rave about FiveTen shoes. They are super sticky and pretty comfortable. These shoes are Fugly though. They are probably the most hideous shoes I've seen but they do there job and do it well. SPD is a little tough to get used to. They are up in the sole so as apposed to regular SPD shoes so its gonna take me some time to get used to getting them just right on the clips. other than that great shoes!
