Fly Racing Freestone Helmet 2015

Fly Racing Freestone Helmet

The Freestone Helmet by Fly Racing was sculpted as true all mountain/ trail lid. Through its progressive ConeHead Technology, the Freestone features a revolutionary EPS foam system that acts as a crumple zone around the head to absorb and dissipate impact forces more efficiently than conventional hard foam liners. Two separate foams with two different densities work seamlessly together to create a resilient inter-foam bond strength with optimal recovery from impact.

With 19 ventilation ports, the Freestone helmet excels at keeping air flowing throughout, while the built-in mesh comfort liner serves as a bug screen to prevent ride-ending insect bites and stings. The one handed fit adjustment makes it quick and easy to dial in the perfect fit on the fly. The Freestone helmet’s 6 piece shell construction and simple, yet aggressive aesthetics look just as good tearing up the weekend enduro as they do caressing the local loop during the week.

Features:

  • Recommended use: Mountain Bike, All mountain, Trail, MTB Endurance/Marathon
  • ConeHead Technology for superior impact absorption
  • 317.5 grams for a Med/Large helmet
  • Deep rear EPS profile offers extensive coverage

awesome helmet!
I use this helmet for mountain biking, I recently went on a 2 hour bike run, I didn't even notice I had the helmet on. I don't know how it protects, I haven't had a crash on it yet... but I will. Great helmet!!!!

Great Fit, Price and Style!
I recieved this helmet about a month ago. It is lightweight and breaths well. To be honest I can barely notice I'm wearing it, it is by far the most comfortable helmet I have worn in a while. With its relatively cheap price tag, great protection and excelent overall styling this lid is hard to beat.

Love it!
I did not purchase this helmet for cycling as I do not ride a bike. At least not one with wheels... LOL. I am an equestrian and ride horses in a sport called endurance which is long distance riding in lieu of 50, 75 and 100 miles in a day. For the most part, I have been solely dissatisfied with equestrian helmets so when it was suggested that I check out MTB helmets I was intrigued. I figured that the MTB riders are going at speeds I am not but doing it on terrain that I do ride in. I did alot of research and read alot of reviews and narrowed it down to three and chose the Freestone. It left me wondering why I did not go this route sooner. The helmet is extremely light compared to any equestrian helmet and is alot cooler and open with the large vents. It is extremely comfortable and the dial can be adjusted to fit my head without any pressure. One of the things I really like is the adjustable visor which no EQ helmet has and one big factor is it will protect the back of my head in case of a spill. All in all, I do not have one bad thing to say about this helmet. It has been wonderful. One thing I did do is make a chin strap pad to make that part more comfortable but the adjustments of the straps is easy and they do not get in the way of anything and it incorporates my Oakley M2 frames and goggles (I wear them in dusty conditions) very well. Two thumbs up!

Really happy with the helmet
I'm really happy with the style and fit - fits my head perfectly - no pressure points or chafing.

I agree with other reviews on the interwebernet that the rear sizing dial is a bit too easy to release...i can see it perhaps undialing when rubbing on a pack or something.

Regarding the size, my head is 22.75 and the M/L size fits perfectly. If you're noggin is larger than 23" you should go with the XL.

I like that the buckles all have a quick release mechanism, so makes it easy to adjust lengths of the straps.

The only Con is the visors on all but the black helmet are not opaque enough. When sunlight strikes the visor, in your upper peripheral vision you can see the visor glowing bright yellow (or blue, or what or red depending on the color). I solved this issue by lining the inside of the visor with gorilla tape.

PROS: Lightweight, Good Ventilation, Comfortable Fit, Highly Adjustable

Not bad but certainly not extraordinary
Helmet construction and visual appeal is better than average. comfort is lacking due to the front of the helmet rides very low on the users forehead. The helmet sizing is actually generous in both length & width.

PROS: Good Ventilation, Lightweight

CONS: Uncomfortable

Great Deal on a Great Looking Helmit
Ordered this helmit because of its great look and price. Guess I've got a weird sized head though, because I tried the medium/large size first and it was too big. So, I sent it back and ordered the next smaller size and it feels a little too small, but I'm trying to make it work. Bottom line, I would recommend this helmit for someone that could get a good fit with it, but for me, I should've stuck with a Giro.

PROS: Tough, Lightweight, Looks Cool

CONS: Uncomfortable
