The Fox Talas is the definitive fork for variable terrain. Flick the Talas knob into the short position and you’ll have 110mm of travel that’ll keep you balanced and steady as you climb up the back side of the mountain. The law of gravity states that: what goes up must come down. So switch the Talas knob back and you’ll have 140mm of plush travel, perfect for mowing down rocks, branches, roots, and anything that dares to cross your path. Fox Talas forks feature an updated damping tune for even greater control, while the handlebar remote has also been redesigned and is smaller and sleeker.
To ensure that your travel is buttery smooth, Fox has added Kashima coating to the uppers. Kashima coating is a hard anodizing process that fills in micro pores that may exist in the material, creating a smoother surface in comparison to a hard anodization on prior versions. Its distinctive gold color is backed by its high performance attributes including extreme durability as well as an extremely smooth feel. The whole purpose and value of the Kashima coating is its friction reduction properties, while the aesthetic value is always a cherry on top.
The Fox Talas features the FIT cartridge. FIT stands for Fox Isolated Technology. FIT technology employs a bladder system that keeps the oil and air from mixing to provide optimal performance in all riding extremes. Since the FIT cartridge uses much less oil, the weight of the fork is significantly less than one with an open bath style.
CTD (Climb, Trail, and Descend) Technology is incredibly easy to use and allows you the ultimate adjustability on the trail. The three-position, on-the-fly system provides three distinct compression dampenings that you’d typically need on an average ride. CTD is extremely useful as the trails become indecisive. The rider is quickly able to flip the lever between the three positions to ensure the perfect amount of travel for that very moment in the ride. CTD is much faster than previous systems where the rider would have to stop and click through to find the proper setting.
Climb mode has the firmest low- speed compression, which maximizes pedaling efficiency and has minimal suspension movement to reduce pedal-bob. Internally, the oil flow is restricted, and can only flow through the Climb port, which limits the suspension’s movement. In the event of a hard impact, the spring loaded blow- off valve will allow the damper to go into its travel. Trail mode provides an optimal blend of pedaling efficiency and control on variable terrain. The oil flow is opened to the mid and high speed compression shim stack. Descend mode provides the rider with the most active suspension. Descend mode is an optimized low- speed compression setting which provides the perfect balance of control and plushness for steep, aggressive descents. Oil is able to flow through the high, mid, and low speed ports. CTD is easily controlled by switching the dial on the crown of the fork, enabling maximum control over front-end suspension, without having to leave the saddle.
This version of the Fox Float comes with a handlebar remote. No longer will you need to hunch over and show off your lower back to adjust your suspension. Simply, switch between Climb, Trail, and Descend with the push of a button. Fox has streamlined the remote to make it more compact, so the left over real estate on your handlebar is available for shifters, GPSs’ and GoPros’. The remote actuation is also much softer and requires less energy than previous models.
This particular Fox 34 29” fork features a G2 offset (51mm rake). While keeping the wheel base the same, the G2 offset reduces the horizontal distance between the steering axis and wheel center by offsetting the fork which improves handling on 29” bikes. The hand position moves back and the fork offsets forward which reduces trail without affecting the headtube angle.
Weight taken at 165mm steerer length with star fangled nut and disc brake guide installed.
