Fox Float Volume Spacer Kit
Now you can easily change and tune your Fox RP shock with the Fox Float Volume Spacer Kit, you can change the spring rate on the air spring to suit your needs. The kit includes three plastic spacers that snap onto the shaft inside the air canister and 5ml packet of FOX Float Fluid. The spacers reduce the air volume of the air-spring chamber, causing the pressure to ramp up faster as the shock compresses. The volume changes for each spacer are, .2, .4 and .6 cubic inches, and installation can be done with a shock pump and a small screwdriver

Santa Cruz recommended I get this kit to use with the 2009 RP23 I took off my Heckler and put on my new Nomad. They said to use the 0.2 or 0.4 inch spacer. I installed the 0.2 and that was all it needed. I can now run the shock with 70 kpa (10 psi) less than than before to get better small bump compliance and smoother riding and more bottom out resistance! What else can be said about this kit? It does the job! The only people who may not need it are those who bought a 2010 or later Santa Cruz bike with an RP23 because according to Santa Cruz's rep, they started putting in volume spacers as standard at that time. Check with your bike manufacturer before getting one just to make sure. And apparently you should NOT use the 0.6 inch spacer with such a shock.

It works well. I can ride in the appropriate sag and not bottom out on everything. I've been using the mid sized spacer in my trance x. I will still have the shocks compression tune valves how I want it but this will do for now. It limit the shock travel by 3/16 of a inch or so, not a deal breaker cause I haven't bottomed it out since I installed the spacer.

my stock ibis mojo hd frequently bottoms out. with this installed, no more bottom out and at the same time i can lower the pressure of my rp23 making it more plush.

This little kit although expensive for 3 plastic pieces is great for tuning a fox Float.
My rear shock would blow through too much travel when hitting relatively small drops. I wanted to avoid adding to much psi as it negatively affected small bump compliance.
I added the medium spacer after watching a tutorial video and I am more than happy with the result.
I can now run my rear shock with low enough pressure to run like butter over the fast small bumps, but it ramps up nicely on bigger hits so that I am no longer bottoming out when at low psi. In fact I don't feel so bad hitting the larger bumps and drops I used to on my coil shocks, almost impossible to bottom out now even on the big stuff.
The install is simple, if you do a search for "Fox volume spacer kit" you'll have all the info you need. No need to take it to a shop, and even if you do, its a 5 minute job.
