GT Grade Carbon Ultegra Bike 2016

GT Grade Carbon Ultegra Bike

open the road.

A bike that’s ready for the adventure? We’re game. We live for that feeling of being out on the road. Any kind of road. For some it’s the thrill of speeding down smooth roads, the challenge of a gran fondo, or ripping some singletrack. Maybe even the commute into work. Whatever it is, nothing beats experiences on two wheels. Today, GT maintains and creates new and exciting technologies that improve riding in all aspects.

GT gets straight to the point with the GT Grade Carbon Ultegra build. If you've been looking for the fabled bike that just might be able to do it all, you've found it. With disc brakes, tubeless wheels with room for bigger tires and an overall light weight, it's time to ditch your preconceived notions of road riding. Whatever kind of road you want to ride, the GT Grade has it handled.

Grade has everything you need to tackle any road, no matter how long or loose. No more compromises - It ticks all the checkboxes. Lightweight? Disc Brakes? Thru-axles Fork? Tubeless? Low gearing? Check 'em all, it's got it.

Grade's Shimano Ice Tech disc brakes perform smoothly and powerfully in all conditions. GT pairs this with the Shimano Ultegra groupset, which provides smooth and reliable shifting with wide gear range for those backroad grunter climbs. With 11 speeds, you will churn away the miles with the Ultegra mid-compact crankset delivering power to the Stan's NoTubes Grail wheels wrapped in Continental Grand Sport Race 700x28 rubber. These wheels balance a wide rim profile with a handsomely low weight and super high quality DT 240 hubs, meaning you won't have to go and drop more cash on a new set of wheels after getting this bike. Like we said, the Grade has it handled.

One bike to replace them all...
I was commuting on my old aluminum racing bike, circa 2001. It was fast, and we won some races back in the day, but it is a harsh ride. I started looking in the gravel bike area because I like the concept of consolidation, and my 49 year old butt needed somthing gentler. I don't mountain bike much anymore, don't race, but love bikes and wanted something special. I was going to spend 1200 or so... Then this 2016 was available on Jenson USA, and I splurged.

Initial impressions? Good looking, light, and mechanically perfect. I was thinking I would settle for 105, maybe even Tiagra - so happy I got this option.

The bike is comfy, and descends soooo well on rough roads. It climbs fine, but not with the immediacy of my old Allez. Sprinting is ok, but you will be fine on fast group rides. I could see logging more miles on this than I ever would have on my old bike.

I chose the gravel bike though it is a bit overkill for my needs. I might do some light trails, but I wanted comfortable and light. The GT AL looked to be a contender, against some nice steel options. I didn't think carbon and Ultegra would be in the budget. It wasn't, but close! It is stiff to climb, but smooths out the bumps. And the brakes... Sooo nice. I think I will do a century or two this fall, because I can...

Sizing was annoying with the GT. My road bike was a 56, but compact and tight. I got the 56/Lg, and the reach was too much. Know why? 120 mm stem? Wtf? Swapped out a 100mm, and I am set up perfectly now. No issues with the shorter stem, BTW, handling is as. Good as ever... The medium was going to be too small, the sizing is just strange with these... I guess you should just realize you can alter and adjust and find your fit as long as you are close on the sizing.

2016 came with 28 tires, perfect for me. Not perfect for trails, though, so the 2017 is a better choice for you off roaders. I know I can run 35's so I have options. I hear the Schaubs are the best for mixed use, and tubeless to boot...

Jensen was great, fast shipping across the country and a very fair price. I highly recommend them. I highly recommend the bike too, it is a really great package. I keep my stuff forever, so spending a bit more is an investment... I commute happily now, it is fun to come down one monster hill while before it was a bit white knuckled... If this gets you to ride, then get it. Life is too short...

GT Grade Carbon Ultegra
AMAZING! Had it out for a long ride just this last weekend of Loudoun, VA's finest gravel roads! It was a blast! Over 3000 ft of elevation in a 40mi loop, this bike is great! Suffered a flat, but quickly fixed it. The rest of the equipment which Jenson's mechanic's tune before shipping worked great! This is my first purpose built cyclocross/gravel bike and not one I've cobbled together myself out of something else, it's fantastic. It was a great deal I couldn't pas up!

It really is a local bike shop!
What a great experience… Normally I wouldn't ever recommend purchasing a bike over the Internet but with Jensen you really are buying a bike from a local bike shop you just happen to be communicating over the Internet. The fact that it comes totally assembled only requiring the seat handlebars and wheels be put on it makes for a great experience .

Top notch build, great price!
This is my first foray into road riding. I picked it up for commuting and the local group rides.

Building it up out of the box was easy, install a few parts, and it was tuned up and ready to go.

The Ultegra kit and hydraulic discs are excellent. The frame damps the road vibration and an excellent overall package. The DT 240 hubs are an exceptional set for a bit at such a price.

Sizing was a bit odd to me, but based upon the excellent recommendation of the Gear Advisors, I snagged a 53cm for me at 5'9" with a 31.75" inseam and it fits great.

Max tire width?
A shopper on Feb 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The frame and fork will barely fit Clement MSO 40mm. There may be a little rub and no extra room for mud. Seems like most run nothing bigger than 35c tires. Of course tire brand and rim will change what width you can use.
I'm 5'5" with 30 inseam, will 53cm be too big? Thanks.
A shopper on Jun 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I am 5'11" with a 32 inseam and I ride a 53cm GT Grade. I'd be inclined to say yes, but fit is a funky subject and depends on preference/riding style.
