The Zaskar exemplifies this value well with its impressive blend of performance components at an entry-level price point.
The GT Bikes Zaskar Elite is built around GT's Speed Metal Alloy hydroformed aluminum frame. The Speed Metal design is durable enough to stand up to heavy use, but light enough to compete with the frames of more coveted bikes. GT decided to go with a replaceable derailleur hanger design on this version of the Zaskar alloy frame, so catching your derailleur on a trail obstacle won't result in a ruined frame, but just a quick hanger replacement and you'll be back on the trail. The forged bottom bracket shell, head tube, and dropouts, ensure strength and rigidity that can stand up to the daily abuses of trail riding. The tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" headtube makes for a stiff front end that works flawlessly with the RockShox Recon Solo Air fork. The Rockshox Recon Solo Air provides 100mm of travel, giving you just enough cushion to tame a rough trail, but not so much travel that you find yourself bobbing all over the place during climbs. The Air Spring design allows you to adjust rebound settings to fit your desired style of riding and the PopLoc Remote Lockout offers a convenient way to lockout your fork--a great option to have when climbing efficiency is a priority.
GT chose to outfit the drivetrain of the Zaskar Elite with Shimano components. Shimano SLX shifters and crankset pair well with Deore front derailleur and XT Shadow Plus rear derailleur. They incorporate many trickle down features from Shimano's higher end components at a more affordable price-point, providing excellent performance and reliability that will help you take your riding to the next level.
Continental's reliable Race King tires feature a low profile tread that is perfect for cross country trail riding. The Race King tread ensures plenty of bite when cornering but its low-profile makes it a fast rolling tire with low rolling resistance. Holding up the Continental Race Kings, is a sturdy wheelset comprised of All Terra Alloy disc hubs with quick release skewers and tubeless-ready WTB I19 rims. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes provide plenty of stopping power when you're speeding down the trail and responsive modulation when navigating tricky terrain. GT rounds out the cockpit of the Zaskar Elite with a Fizik Tundra 2 Mg saddle, and Kore Torsion seatpost, aluminum handlebar and stem. A rock-solid parts kit brings this whole bike together at a low weight!
