Giant started in 1972 with one goal: Create a better cycling experience for people around the world. Giant has never lost sight of their goal. The founders of Giant Bicycles were craftsmen and engineers, and they loved to ride. Working to their strengths, they set out to improve cycling by following three guiding principles: craftsmanship, innovation, and inspiration. Over the past four decades, Giant has become one of the most well- known bicycle brands in the world. Giant Bicycles has won world championships as well as numerous awards online and in- print cycling magazines. Giant Bicycles makes bicycles for everyone in the family, as well as for championship road and mountain bikers, and everyone in between.

The all new enduro trail bike from Giant, the Giant Trance 27.5 3 has arrived. Designed to utilize the 27.5” wheel size to its full potential, the Trance can handle steep descents, tough climbs, and technical terrain. Giant has created the Trance 27.5 3 to be the ultimate enduro machine. The frame is composed of ALUXX SL-grade aluminum, sporting 5.5” of terrain-sucking Maestro suspension, utilizing the RockShox Monarch R rear shock. Up front on the Trance is the stout RockShox Sektor Silver RL fork, with a 15mm thru-axle and 140mm of travel.

The drivetrain on the Giant Trance 27.5 3 is composed of Shimano bicycle components, which are known to be some of the best components available for your mountain bike. The Shimano Deore Shadow Plus rear derailleur allows you to stiffen up the spring, which in turn makes dropping chains a thing of the past by keeping the chain under tension. The Shimano Deore crankset up front is made to be strong and durable. All this paired with the 11-36 10 speed cassette in the back allows you to climb and descend in whatever gear is comfortable for you.

Braking power has been delivered with the Shimano M395 Hydraulic disc brakes. The Giant Trance 3 comes standard with a 180mm front rotor and a 160mm rear rotor, which is a common combination on most enduro machines. Giant has equipped the Trance 27.5 with their own S-XC2 Wheelsystem, with a 5x135mm integrated rear axle and 15mm front axle. The tires chosen on the Trance 27.5 3 are from Schwalbe’s Performance line, consisting of the Nobby Nic, a trail-proven tire that will provide ample grip on every terrain you throw at it. Take no chances in your next enduro ride or race with the Giant Trance 27.5 3 and see what you’ve been missing!

Comments about Giant Bicycles Giant Bikes Trance 27.5 3 Bike 2014:

I upgraded to this bike after a few months riding a hard-tail 29er, my first mountain bike. My friends and I were starting to ride more difficult, technical trails so I knew an upgrade was in order.

My first ride on the Trance 27.5 3 was a blast and it only got better from there. It took no time at all to get used to the full-suspension. I was only kicking myself for not upgrading sooner. The added traction and control instilled so much confidence that it made me a faster rider.

Out of the box, this bike was spec'ed great compared to alot of the other entry level full suspension bikes. The rear shock doesn't have a lockout but I'm able to climb just fine. The only thing I upgraded early on were wider handlebars. I've only recently purchased a Rockshox Reverb seat dropper, which I highly recommend.

My biggest complaint with the bike was the stock wheelset. Specifically, the rear hub. I'm 6ft and about 260lbs, not exactly petite. After about 6 months of riding, the rear hub failed and wouldn't transfer any power to the rear wheel. I was able to get it replaced under warranty. My LBS took care of it, but I had to pay for shipping as well as a warranty fee. However, after a couple weeks, the rear hub started showing signs that it was going to fail, yet again. After a long talk with a bike mechanic, I decided it was best to upgrade my wheelset. I got a great deal on a wheelset from a friend which included DT Swiss 350 hubs. Haven't had any issues since.

I've put about 700 hard miles on this bike. So far, I've gone through a set of tires, a couple sets of brake pads, and a pair of grips. Aside from regular trail riding, I've also taken it to the bike park a couple times this season and it did just fine. I'd consider myself an intermediate rider and I've yet to feel like this bike is holding me back.

Would I recommend this bike to a friend? Absolutely. I'd also tell them to set aside a little money for a wheelset. Just in case.

Comments about Giant Bicycles Giant Bikes Trance 27.5 3 Bike 2014:

This bike is a downhiller's cross country bike or a cross country riders free-ride bike. I have had the bike for 4 months now and have 40 hours of ride time on the bike. I did change the brakes (went to Avid X0's) as the shimano's blew up almost immediately. I am a very heavy rider (about 6'5" and 235lbs) and i ride fairly rough. Typical trail riding includes jumps that are 6 to 10 foot gaps and small drops 4-6 feet. The bike handles these well and I have had no trouble with the fork or rear shock. The suspension works extremely well on this bike and provides minimal to no pedal kick and not too much bob under heaving pedaling. You will have a tough time keeping up with people on purpose built XC rigs on the uphills, though it is perfectly content climbing. The bike is very comfortable and other than the stock brakes seems to be very well spec'd. I would recommend adding the MRP 2X chain guide to avoid dropping the chain when changing down on front gearing.

Just stating the weight since I just had a bike shop weigh it for me.

The 2014 Trace 3 (27.5" wheels) is 30 lbs complete.
