The first thing to know about helmets is that it needs to fit right. If you know your size and how each brand fits, then this is a great choice. Good ventilation and adjustment and while not flashy, I like a simple looking lid.

This is a great helmet. Light weight, comfortable, ample coverage and it looks good too. I used it for about a year until I went over the handlebars, head first into a buddies bike. Cracked the helmet in 5 or 6 places, but it did its job. Not even a headache in a crash that would have sent me to the hospital if I was not wearing it. I guess that is the ultimate testament to how good a helmet is! Only complaint is that the sizing is a bit weird. I have a large head (7 5/8 hat size), but the medium fit best. Fit great, but you might need to use a little caution when ordering.

This helmet fits well, ventilates well and shades the eyes nicely. Looks nice too. Took a few bails on it (nothing hard enough to warrant a replacement)and it's still going strong. The dial on the back makes it simple to adjust the fit and feels indestructible. If you're looking for rear head protection, it doesn't have as much as some other helmets, but it saves on weight. It weighs the same as my Bell Volt 2012 but cost half as much! More people should ride the Hex!

It's been a while since I bought a helmet. I'm a commuter; my old Bell Muni Gen1 was awesome, served me perfectly for years and I looked at replacing with Gen2 Muni, but they really mucked up the strap system - it's no longer as comfortable, secure or adjustable as gen1.

I wanted a new helmet with good airflow, comfort, range of adjustability (so I could wear a hat underneath for cold AM rides), security (stays firmly planted on my noggin), with a visor - this is it!

Also, I didn't want one of those swoopy looking helmets, because if you're wearing that you darn well better be fast!

But vanity aside, I'm really happy with the purchase. It's not a cheap helmet, but the RocLoc5 adjustment system is flat out superb. I really like the vertical adjustment to grab onto the back of your skull and the very fine adjustment of the circumferencial strapping.

When I measured my pumpkin using Giro's online sizing guide, I was at the high end of a medium size, borderline large. I originally picked up the medium size thinking the large might be sloppy. The medium is slightly narrower at the temple and after wearing it in the house for 30minutes, was starting to get a headache. Also, there was not enough room to put a thin hat for those chilly winter AM rides. Thanks Jenson for your exchange policy. I switched to large and no problems with excess room. The RocLoc5 system means I can make this fit like a glove.

Lesson learned: 1/ Giro's online sizing tool is spot on, 2/ if you're btwn sizes, go for the larger, it will still fit perfectly and you'll have room for a thin hat or your sudden desire to get a perm ;-)
