The 942 rim by Ibis is a light and dependable hoop, built upon the foundations of their popular 941 rim. Like its predecessor, the 942 has a wide body making it perfect for plus sized tires, and ideal for ultra-low pressures. The rims also feature a lower cross section height, which provides improved impact resistance. Ibis also made changes to the carbon layup, incorporating new layers of carbon/ epoxy pre-preg into their original composite. The 942's asymmetric design allows for higher spoke tension, providing increased stiffness and power transfer. By combining these improvements, Ibis made the 942 30% and 7.5% lighter than the previous generation.
Industry Nine's Torche hubs make a perfect centerpiece for these wheels. The front hub has dual bearings that each have external o-ring seals and precision spoke drilling. The rear utilizes four bearings, external Teflon seals, and a silicone freehub seal. Driven by 120 points of engagement and a dual 3 pawl system, they deliver three degrees of excellent engagement.
Advanced driver 60-tooth ratchet with 2 trios of pawls deliver super-fast three-degree engagement
Iconic hoops Ibis carbon rims are wide, light, and stiff
Light internals Thru axles save weight and improve integrity
Versatility Fit for SRAM or Shimano's 8-11 speed cassettes
Competitive weight Complete set weighs in at just 1690 grams
I've been riding the 941's for a year now, and after a few months of riding the spoke nipples began splitting. Ibis tried to blame it on living in a salt air environment, but I have to call BS on that explanation. Ibis themselves are in the very same environment I am. Other than needing to replace all the nipples and retension the wheel, they have been good.
Light Weight considering the width/size, Easy tubeless mount
Light Weight Rims with huge 35mm internal width. That low tire pressure capability helps going up AND down. These were very easy to mount Maxxis tires to for tubeless setup. My only gripe is that the stickers are super fragile and tear/scratch easily. I want these on my rim to protect the carbon and I am not sure it offers much protection..... Oh, and the I9 hubs are LOUD!
