Ibis is known in the cycling industry for the expert craftsmanship and high-grade materials that go into the manufacturing of their bicycles. To understand how it all started, take a trip back in time to 1980. Ibis founder, Scot Nicol read an article about the new “Klunker Bike” movement in the Spring issue of CoEvolution Quarterly—a friendly hippy magazine. The seed was planted. In 1981, in a workshop in Mendocino, California, the first Ibis bicycle was made. Glassy eyed onlookers saw the bicycle and asked Scot if he could produce more. Fast forward 30 years to present-day Ibis: a renowned boutique bicycle manufacturer with humble beginnings that continues to raise the bar in the mountain bike world.
The Mojo HDR 27.5" frame is an extremely versatile design. It can be set up in a number of ways, for a variety of riding styles. Both the HDR 26" and HDR 27.5" share the same frame, making it possible to change wheel size and front and real travel to suit your riding style and terrain. The stock 27.5" model is set up with 130mm of travel in the frame, and is meant to incorporate a 140mm fork. The HDR's mixed tapered headset provides an impressively rigid front end platform. This design combined with the thru axle fork and stiff front end carbon layup make for an extremely precise and sturdy design. Ibis also recently beefed up the lower link of the HDR's suspension to ensure that it will endure mile after mile of abuse. Since the Mojo HDR was born out of innovation, it makes sense that Ibis wouldn't stop at the bare minimum of technical features. The newest version of the HDR features increased clearance for 11 speed drivetrains as well as a removable ISCG chainguide mount, taking the versatility of this already stellar bike to an even greater level.
The Ibis Mojo HDR X01 build is all about simple efficiency. The rock solid SRAM X01 1x11 drivetrain saves weight and simplifies the drivetrain while maintaining a wide 32t x 10-42t mountain bike gearing range. X01 is technically a step down from SRAM's premier XX1 group, but features many of the same benefits with only a small weight penalty and a few cost-conscious material choices. An E*Thirteen TRS+ 32t crank delivers plenty of pedaling power and Shimano XT hydraulic brakes give you all the braking power need to stop on a dime or modulate technical sections of the trail. A Fox Float 34 CTD 140mm travel fork handles suspension duties up front while a Fox Float CTD Adjust Factory Series keeps everything dialed and plush in the rear. The rock solid Stan's Rapid 650b wheelset ensures that your spinning smoothly and efficiently and Pacenti Neo-Moto 2.3 provide excellent speed and grip that's made them the go-to choice for many 650b riders. Ibis rounds out the Mojo HDR X01 build with a Ibis branded cockpit.
