Trans fats, found in Twinkies, Ho-Hos, Sno balls, and many other delightful snacks are quite possibly some of the nastiest stuff we can put into our face. They are damaging to the heart, waistline and totally detrimental for health and happiness. An Ibis Trans-Fat fat bike however, is excellent for increasing happiness, well-being and, believe it or not, may also be healthy for your pocket book.
The Ibis Trans-Fat fat bike is an incredibly versatile marvel of engineering that has the potential to become the only hardtail rig needed for any and every season. Yep, this plump and well spec’d bike could potentially serve as both your all-conditions fat bike in the winter, as well as a lightweight cross county racing whip come spring. This is possible due to the fact that it’s built on a foundation of the already popular Ibis Tranny 29er. The Tranny 29er frame is a carbon frame that can easily be disassembled into two parts, the front and rear triangle. This allows for easy packing when traveling by air or the use of a belt-drive system and now, Ibis takes advantage of this design to provide a fat bike rear triangle that can be bolted onto a Tranny torso. Now, with the new wider rear triangle and some help from a few other Ibis goodies, we can pack 4 inches of tires and junk into a Tranny 29er trunk.
The Ibis Trans-Fat is built around a Rockshox 120mm travel Bluto fork and Sun Ringle Mulefut 80SL 26 inch wheelset. The 3mm thick crown race corrects the 29er geometry to create a slacker headtube angle and clearance for the wider fork crown. Simply remove this when converting to a standard 29er fork. 4 inch wide Schwalbe Jumbo Jims deliver the extra float and traction that have come to define fat bikes and a 100mm Race Face Turbine Cinch crank allows for the extra clearance needed for the chain. Remove the BB92 adapter to run a standard width spindle for XC mode. A no-nonsense Shimano XT drivetrain provides flawless shifting and braking as they sit nicely in the Thompson and Ibis cockpit. Finally, the KS LEV Integra dropper seat post is remotely controlled to allow us to drop your rump while the Tranny’s trunk rolls over the chunk.
Most trans fats will go right to your thighs, but the Ibis Trans Fat fat bike bucks that trend by being the very thing you want to allow into your garage and your heart.
