Industry Nine Torch Carbon C-41 Wheelset

The Industry Nine Torch Carbon C-41 Wheelset is the perfect balance between exceptional climbing capability and aerodynamic performance. The C41 wheels feature the same 17.5mm inner/25mm outer width of the C29, but the rim depth extends to 41mm. The additional depth and the incorporation of Reynolds SLG™ technology, offer an added Aero advantage, while still maintaining a very competitive weight of only 1400 grams.  The one size fits all option, the C41 is the perfect wheelset for everyday or race day. When weight and aerodynamics are equally important—this is the wheelset to choose.

For the latest version of the Industry Nine Torch Carbon C-41 Wheelset, a 24 hole 2/1 lacing pattern is used on the rear wheel. This pattern reduces wheel weight and works to even out spoke tension and maintain maximum durability. Torch rear wheels feature 16 spokes on the rear drive side flange, paired with 8 opposing spokes. Due to the rear wheel dish caused by the cassette on the rear wheel, this orientation evens out spoke tension. As a result, peak stress loads are reduced on the spokes and rim, as well as the fatigue cycle incurred in a traditional 24 spoke wheel - allowing a lower spoke count and lighter weight, without the durability issues and increased rim weights commonly associated with low spoke count wheels.

The road version of the Torch freehub is much like the mountain version but with a few added adjustments for road cycling performance. The pawl count has been reduced from 6 to 3 for lower drag and weight while still achieving an impressive 6 degree engagment. Relocated bearings and a new freehub seal are added to the mix as well to reduce freehub drag while coasting. As a final precaution, Torch hubs feature custom Teflon seals for endcaps, which are manufactured in house at Industry Nine's facility in Asheville, North Carolina. These seals fully protect the hubs from mud, water, and other messy gunk. Tough enough for CX yet smooth enough for road racing performance, the Industry Nine Torch Carbon C-41 Wheelset is a top-shelf wheelset.

Wow! Nice Wheels!
I got into road cycling about 3 years ago and have had numerous wheels, Fulcrum, Shimano, Mavic, Easton...etc. The only one that I kept is the Shimano C24, solid, reliable and easily serviceable wheels, very good value for the money. Mavic Ksyriums are nice wheels, but their design are dated and I had hub spacing issue with my pair (hub width came under normal spec). I was selecting between Reynolds Assaults and Enve SES 3.5, then I saw these wheels and decided its worth a try (saving a few hundred dollars from the Enve). So far I got about 200 miles on these and they work great! Both lateral and side-to-side stiffness is good, while laterally more compliant than the Ksyriums, side-to-side flex is a lot less, so hard efforts doesn't get wasted. The rear hub engagement is instantaneous, very similar to Easton's Echo rear hub and hopefully more reliable, time will tell. The braking is as good as my Shimano, Ksryiums, Easton, and that's with the regular pads, not the new Reynolds pads. The effect of deeper profile (compared to C24) is very noticeable at higher speed (between 24-30 mph), crosswind effect is minimal, and at 1400 per set, still climbs OK. Only took about 50 miles to break-in to roll smoothly. Very satisfied with my purchase.
