Jamis stepped it up in 2012 and retweaked the chassis with modified welding techniques, thicker butting, and radiused gussets so we can flow and absorb big-hit stresses throughout the frame. The pumped-up, hydroformed down tube with integrated bell crank pivot gives BAM incredible torsional rigidity; something you’ll appreciate as you bomb downhill, bang through rock gardens and over obstacles that would send other bikes home crying. With a slack 65 degree head tube angle, the 7005 aluminum frame features Jamis’s mp3 suspension platform that seamlessly mates the Fox VAN RC rear shock with the position-sensitive damping of the Rock Shox Boxxer RC suspension fork. The BAM ride is super-active and plush with minimal pedal feedback or chain growth. Wide 150 mm rear dropout spacing makes room for beefy 2.5” tires, held secure by a 12 mm Maxle axle and matched by the 20mm thru-axle up front: all to keep you in control and out of the repair shop.
When it came to the nuts and bolts Jamis cleverly augmented the Dakar AMT’s drivetrain. The SRAM X7 shifter and rear derailleur deliver precise, efficient shifting while remaining durable for exceptional performance and versatility.The Syncros FR rims and hubs are laced together with DT Swiss Champion spokes, and are armed with Geax Neuron and DHEA tires that can’t wait to get filthy. Don’t be surprised if the Avid Elixir 5 hydraulic disc brakes encourage more speed, as they deliver exceptional stopping power that’ll inspire the confidence to go faster. Syncros components make up the cockpit, offering rigidity and resilience; two requirements for taking big hits.
Inside the box, the Jamis Dakar BAM is like a like a caged mountain lion, pacing, plotting, and begging to be releases back into its natural habitat; the slopes.
