Jamis overhauled the XAM last year, and still found room for improvement to make it even better!  The chainstays have been beefed up and now the rear end is thru-axle compatible. The resulting increase in lateral stiffness keeps the rear wheel tracking in line with the front no matter how deep you are into suspension travel.  The mp3 suspension makes the XAM an incredibly plush, yet efficient trail bike. The suspension is fully active, so go ahead and claw your way up-trail, free of pedal-bob, and fly downhill without fear of brake jack.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar Xam II Bike '10:

This bike is an ultimate technical tral killer. Check the spec on this bike. For under 2k, you can snag a Hammerschmidt, Talas, Elixers, SRAM XO.....the list goes on. This bike can be pressing into Freeride duty as well. Beffy bike for the rider not concerned about a few extra pounds here and there. The bike arrived at my home with the bronze level build. All I had to do was slap the wheels on, insert the seat post, and tighten the bars. Another great deal by Jenson. This is my second Jamis XAM I purchased!!!!!! Highly recommended.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar Xam II Bike '10:

First of all, this bike is a FANTASTIC value despite some of its minor shortcomings. I'm 6'3", 225#'s. I purchased the XL and it fits like a glove. I'm coming off owning a Felt Redemption that had a Rockshox Totem and Fox DHX5 (both coil), so there was a small learning curve to the all air setup on the XAM II. However, the weight savings is DRAMATIC! My Felt weighed in at 45#'s and the Jamis…….a svelte 35#'s!!! The ride is super plush and takes big hits with no issues at all.

A few changes to consider: If you're my size you'll want to change out the stock bars ASAP. It comes stock with a set Synchros 670's. Good bars, but way too narrow. The Elixir brakes are excellent, but the stock 185 front and 160 rear rotors, do not do them justice. Just change out the rotors to a 203 front and a 185 or 203 rear and it's a world of difference. My last negative would be the wheelset. No issue with the Synchros hubs as I especially like the 20mm thru-axle and 12mm Maxle. But, Mavic XM317 hoops??? Really??? That's an XC rim and way too narrow (17mm inside width). A bike like this, that is clearly designed to take a big hit or three, definitely needs a more burley set of wheels underneath it.

Outside of those criticisms, the bike is flawless and I still give 5 stars due to the overall value. Great to be on a lighter bike that can do all and more that my older and much heavier rig could not. Plus, can you say Hammerschmidt?!?!?!?!

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar Xam II Bike '10:

I bought this as my one "do everything" bike and I am really pleased with my purchase. The bike does not climb like a shorter travel bike but it rails flowy trails and can handle the harshest downhills. Suspension took some tuning but after about 3 or 4 rides I have finally found the settings I like. I put a shorter stem on and I recommend that to most folks as well to give it a shorter, snappier feel.
