Jamis Dragon 650 Pro Bike 2015

a classic steel hardtail

Jamis designed the Dragon 650 Pro mountain bike in the style of classic steel hardtails that put mountain biking on the map a few decades ago. The Reynolds 853 DZB steel frame is built to last through years of abuse. The welds and dropouts are the product of the years Jamis has spent perfecting their craft. With a dropper post and lockout options on the fork, you can climb with ease and descend with confidence. A low bottom bracket and short 425mm chainstays give you snappy control in turns. A slack 68 degree headtube angle and 120mm of front travel carry you safely through rock gardens and sketchy chutes.

The frame also features sliding 12x142mm rear dropouts for increased stability. A Fox 32 Float CTD fork w/tapered steerer & 15mm axle keep the front end feeling solid. Shimano SLX 2x10-speed drivetrain & brakes give you optimal shifting and braking control. WTB tubeless KOM rims are as light as carbon, and exceedingly stiff. KS eTen dropper seatpost uses advanced ISCG05. Shimano SLX 2x10-speed drivetrain & brakes. Ritchey Trail cockpit. The KS eTen dropper seatpost has an air spring with a hydraulically locking cartridge system. Vittoria Barzo tires give you ultimate control on a variety of trails. The Ritchey Trail series stem and bars have had their dimensions honed through years of expert engineering.

Features

  • KS Suspension's eTen dropper seatpost is a revolutionary post with a modest price tag
  • Ritchey’s trail series stem and bars give you ultimate control in the cockpit
  • Fox’s CTD suspension features state of the art adjustment and lockouts
  • WTB KOM rims are light and super stiff

Solid steel hardtail. Great frame, fork, and groupset. Needs better tires out of the box.
Jamis Dragon Pro 650b is a solid steel hardtail build. Great geometry, good weight, super responsive, fit and finish top notch. SLX groupset more than capable for my needs. Machined rear capiler mount adds style. Fox three position shock is great for diverse terrain. Nice introduction to the dropper post era. I immediately ditched the inner tubed Vittoria Barzos in favor of tubeless Racing Ralph's. In my opinion the stock tires should have come setup tubeless, but I didn't like the cornering of the Brazos regardless. Tubeless setup was fairly simple with the WTB rims. Stock WTB volt saddle replaced after first ride, but that is personal preference. Customer service, shipping, and build from Jenson exceeded my expectations.
Reynolds 853 steel
Fox three position. Descend (squishy), trail (firm), and climb (lockout).
Rear brake mount and thru axle.
Rear derailleur setup.
On the trail.

great all around bike.
Bike arrived a day later than it was supposed to. Checklist contained a section for tubeless set up which I was not aware of during the online purchase. Had I been given the option (or if it was a more noticeable option - I may have missed it) I would have jumped at not having to hassle with that on my own - even for an increased expense, like the expedited shipping even though that didn't pan out either. That said, the bike was super easy to put together out of the box even for someone w/o that kind of experience and I liked the qc list checked off by two Jenson employees that came with the bike.
