Dragons have long been portrayed as fire breathing mythical creatures in countless fairytales. Now is your chance to harness one. The Jamis Dragon Sport is crafted from Reynolds 520 double-butted steel, which provides an incredibly lively ride. The Jamis Dragon is the mountain bike that built Jamis’ high-end reputation in their early years, and the legend is still going strong. If you’re committed to big-wheeled steel hardtails, the Dragon Sport 27.5 is a prodigious option.
The Jamis Dragon 27.5 Sport is beautifully crafted from Reynolds Reynolds 520 steel, which provides an incredibly resilient and sturdy ride. With the addition of oversized 44mm head tubes, the Dragon Sport has adopted a tapered steerer fork to add more stiffness, reduce weight and improve tracking through bumpy terrain. Additionally, the Dragon now features a chainstay/seatstay disc brace that supports the thin-walled, non-driveside stays from the loads generated by the disc brakes. This brace is light, strong, and clean, and provides vibration-free braking.
For the drivetrain, the Dragon 27.5 Sport employs a keen Shimano component arrangement including an SLX rear derailleur and a Deore front derailleur and shifter set, which clearly communicate with each other for smooth, snappy gear changes. The 2x10 gear set-up provides a plethora of options for tackling undulating terrain. The Shimano M396 hydraulic disc brakes are paired with large 180mm (f) and 160mm(r) rotors to bring you to a quick stop, once you’ve decided to pack it in for the day.
Handling the front end, a Rock Shox Recon Silver TK fork with 32mm stanchions and a tapered aluminum steerer tube keeps things plush and tracking smoothly when things get rowdy. The Recon Silver’s external rebound and TurnKey lockout adjust, allows you to adapt to many conditions. The 120mm of travel bridges the gap between XC and Trail for more versatility and comfort.
The Ritchey Trail cockpit (stem, seatpost, handlebar) produces a rigid platform for exceptional control and response, while the WTB ST i23 TCS tubeless rims with "On-Ramp" profile providing a consistent fit between the rim and tire for easy installation and inflation. The Dragon’s proven geometry can gut out gritty climbs, yet it won’t shy away from sketchy descents. Pair the Dragon Sport’s bomb-proof frame with its clever build-group, and throw in the fast 27.5” wheel size and 120mm of travel on top, and you’ve got yourself the smile-machine you’ve always wanted.
