Jamis Icon Elite Bike 2016

Jamis Icon Elite Bike 2016

If you've been looking for a killer road bike and don't feel the need to jump to a carbon frame, this is the bike for you. The Jamis Icon is an incredible performer at an excellent price point. With your hard-earned dollars you're getting a race-ready bike with all-modern features at a light weight. We whole-heartedly believe that this aluminum steed can go toe to toe with any other road bike, period!

This bike is built for snappiness. The Icon Elite features a Synthesis double-butted 6061 Aluminum frame with an an ovalized down tube and SST tubing diameters, butted chainstays and a tapered head tube. Basically, you get an excellent-quality aluminum frame with an efficiently-stiff, yet lightweight and compliant ride. The full carbon fork dampens road vibrations, giving you a more comfortable ride without sacrificing weight or performance. The clear-coated raw finish looks great in the sun and saves weight. Throw it into the corners, sprint up the rollers, this bike is solid as can be. No worries about durability either... it will handle some serious abuse and come begging back for more. Trust us, you’ll often find yourself ahead of the pack without putting out as much effort as everyone else.

The 11-speed Shimano Ultegra group will provide you with silky-smooth and reliable shifting, giving you the freedom to attack at any moment without hesitation. The American Classic Victory 30 tubeless wheels are aero, lightweight and will roll ever so effortlessly on the pavement, making it simple to maintain your speed. Throw some tubeless-ready road tires on and go tear up the streets without fear of flats. The build kit is finished up with a nice Ritchey cockpit and a Fizik finishing kit and saddle.

    A few other questions:
    1) The Geometry for the size 51 looks tight, even tighter than my Giant TCX 'cross bike. Any recommendations for sizing? I am 5'8" or so, ride a Giant TCX SLR2 size small for cross riding and for commuting. Should I be getting size 51 or 54?
    2) is the largest tire it can accommodate 25c?
    3) I don't race, but I want a light, quick, bike for Saturday rides with friends, Thursday night LBS group rides, and the occasional 100 miler Grand Fondo. I realize it is aluminum, but do you have any experience with the feel/comfort of the bike?

    Thanks!
    Jethrodog on May 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 1) The 51 seems about right if you want a more aggressive, "roadier" position than your CX, which you probably will favor. 54 will work too, but you'll end up with a potentially higher position. With the longer top tube you might need a shorter stem. My general recommendation is to go with the smaller frame if it is closer to your current position.

    2) This bike can comfortably fit 25s and definitely has room for more. I can't guarantee that all 28c tire and rim combos will fit but there is a pretty good bet.

    3) In my opinion modern aluminum bikes have come a really long way in terms of comfort. Most of that will come down to your tire choice and PSI as opposed to frame material. With a nice set of tires this bike will do 110% of all the activities you listed.
Is the weight listed on the description accurate at 16.6 lbs?
    Jethrodog on May 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, for the smallest 48cm size.
    Is this bike new?
    Jason L on May 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: All bikes on this site are new unless otherwise noted, e.g. "Open Box" bikes.
does the wheelset take clincher tyres like continental hardshell folding tires 700x25c?
