I ride about 5,000 miles per year. I measure my chain with the special tool (various manufacturers) and replace it when it is worn between 3/4% and 1%. This occurs somewhere around 2,000 miles on the chain. I replace the cluster every three or four chains (approximately once a year) and replace the chainrings every three or four clusters or when the chainring teeth appear obviously worn. I bought the bike new in 1989 and have approximately 80,000 miles on it. The KMC z-51 bicycle chain works fine. JensonUSA sold me the least expensive copy of this chain that I was able to find during an extensive search. I bought eight to get the free shipping option. I am a transportation cyclist. This chain works fine. I can't see buying more expensive chains...they wear out just as fast.

Good for the price

I've used several of these now, and they're pretty trouble-free and shift well.
The wear life isn't up to Shimano's standards, the wear measurement fluctuates more along the chain's length oddly enough, but these give a good 2/3 of the life of a HG70 chain on the road bikes. I probably wouldn't chose this chain for the really severe off-road riding I do, since Shimano seems to be always more durable than the rest of the chains out there.

Comments about KMC Z-51 HG & Ig Compatible Chain:
I occasionally rehab old bikes that I find on the cheap, or that come to me through friends who want to start riding again. This is my go-to chain for a budget job where I don't expect the bike to see heavy use. These chains cost less than the time it takes to clean and lube an old, poorly maintained chain. I'll slap this on with an inexpensive freewheel or cassette, check the bottom bracket and call the drive train done.
I would however choose a better quality chain for a bike that's going to see some miles, like a SRAM PC850 or 870, both of which are available here for a great price.

I liked the fact that the chain didn't come sticky. I didn't have to degrease the chain.

Cheap repair/replacement chain. It just works. We use these at the shop I work at for 90% of the repairs that don't require anything fancier.

Works as well as Shimano HG chain at half the cost. For some reason Jenson has them cheaper than anyone else. EZ Link means you don't have to buy a $5 Shimano pin if you ever have to break the chain to replace derailleur or take it off the frame. However, like most modern chains, you can't add links back on without additional EZ links.
Using with vintage Deore LX drivetrain on a Trek 850.
Comments about KMC Z-51 HG & Ig Compatible Chain:
Its cheap and it works great on my single speed with a stylo crankset. Dont spend too much money on chains for bikes where its not that important

Comments about KMC Z-51 HG & Ig Compatible Chain:
I first used this on a geared wally bike and it works well, haven't had problems with it. I recently bought this same chain for a single speed conversion. This chain fits perfectly onto the DMR STS chain tensioner which is also sold here at Jenson. Comes with a master link and it was stuck to the inside of the packaging. Didn't realize this after i had already shortened and installed the chain.
Comments about KMC Z-51 HG & Ig Compatible Chain:
I bought this chain a few months ago to replace an aging and pretty stretched HG chain. I derailed the thing once and it twisted like a piece of aluminum foil. It's absolute junk. Spend a few more bucks for a better product.
