Kenda Nevegal Pro 26" SCT Tire

The Kenda Nevegal is the ultimate tire for varied terrain. The Nevegal handles loose or hard packed dirt easily. The tire has consistently been voted a winner by Mountain Bike Action Magazine. The Nevegal’s ramped front knobs increase speed while retaining grip for climbs. The Dual Tread Compound (DTC) is the ultimate tread compound. In the center is Kenda’s L3R PRO compound, which is fast rolling, while the cornering knobs have STICK-E compound which gives you cornering control.

This version of the Nevegal has the SCT modification, which makes them compatible with fluid based tubeless conversion systems.

Updated Review
Purchased product in April 2014 to set up tubeless on my Santa Cruz Heckler. Install was not too difficult but it took several sealant and air combos to get it just right. Tires worked well for 2 months of 3 days a week all mountain aggressive riding, but after that things got bad.

The rear tire developed a small sidewall tare that could not be remedied and furthermore both tires began to warp severely. After replacing the rear tire the other tire deteriorated as well. Overall the tires rode well for two months with great grip and no flats, but the break-in period was a let down and the failure of both tires after 3 months will encourage me to never purchase these tires again.

CONS: Poor Fit

Only tire I use for mixed conditions
I Live on the equator and terrain ranges from hardpack dirt, rooty, rutty, rocky, wet sandy to sticky clay muddy conditions all In a 3 hour ride. It's jungle riding. When tuned to the right pressures, this tire grips and corners predictably and inspires confidence.

HardTail Awesome
I installed this tire on my 26" UST hardtail using tire sealant. I've attempted to destroy the tire over nasty terrain/speed southern TX has to offer, to no success. The grip is unsurpassed on dry surfaces and don't recall ever loosing control as a result of tire slippage.

The Nevegal tread does not need any more praise, its proven. The sct design does, it works! I mounted these to a pair of DT swiss UST rims, added Stans sealant and inflated with a air compressor. All has been well.

PROS: Durable, Lightweight, Easy To Install, Attractive Design

good all around tire
I bought the 2.35 to cushen my hardtail ride and so i could run less pressure. It wears pretty good, no knobs have ripped off yet. Good cornering/breaking.

PROS: Easy To Install, Time Tested, All Around Good Tire

CONS: Heavy

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Racing

poor quality control
These tires are just what I was looking for... higher volume to run with lower pressures on a tubeless setup. They look great, but... both tires have a section of about 10 inches that have significant runout in the tread. The casings and beads look fine and the beads seat properly, but it is like having a wheel that is out of true that you can't fix.

No, it is not an issue of the bead not being properly seated as I have read in a couple of these review followups. I marked the bad areas and the rotated the tire on the rims and the same bad spots are there. I even mounted the tires to different rims with tubes and the exact same defects appear in the exact same locations.

One tire is worse than the other... I am trying to decide whether to hassle with returning them or perhaps put the worst one on the back so I won't have too bad a wobble visible on the front when I ride.

Overall I am disappointed with this purchase.

Set up tubeless very easily
Set these up on Mavic 317 rims with tape and tubeless valve stems. Popped right up with a blast from the compressor, and didn't require sealant to seal up the tire. Was still losing some air around the bead and valve stem, so running sealant to tighten up those leaks- everything seems to be working great at 38psi (I'm a big guy) any lower and the rear tends to burp on square-edge bumps.

2.35" size added volume over the 2.1" nevegals that came on the bike, improved ride and traction. Great upgrade!

great tires
great long lasting tires with superb traction. have used these for a couple years with a few hundred miles on them. 90% rides are on trails and 10% on roads.

PROS: Great traction, Long Lasting

CONS: Loud On Street

Absolutely best bang for the buck
No cons now that you can run sealant. Tried a Hans Demph, did not hold a line like the Nevagal and costs more than twice as much.

PROS: Terrific traction, Fairly light weight, Great price, Holds A Line

CONS: none

Great tire, with exceptions.
This is a great tire, and at 2.35 makes for a cushy ride over rocky terrain. I've run them in the front and rear for about 6-8 years. My only gripe, if you could call it that, is that the transitional ramp blocks are entirely the wrong idea for the rear in tight, steep climbing in rocky muddy conditions, out here in the PNW. I always reverse the tread on the rear to accommodate for this shortcoming. Works perfectly on the rear, in this orientation. DTC does keep wear down a bit. But these tires are soft, and as such, I usually replace them twice a year for optimal performance. Or, if I'm feeling tight on funds, I rotate the front to the rear.
