Kenda Nevegal X Pro 27.5" Tire

Kenda Nevegal X Pro 27.5" DTC Tire

The Kenda Nevegal X Pro 27.5 " DTC Tire is the ultimate tire for all conditions. Ride loose or hardpacked, rocky or rutted terrain, the Nevegal performs consistently and predictably. It ditches the oversized, aggressive center knobs of the Nevegal for a faster-rolling, smaller "trail" center knobs and smaller transitional knobs for a markedly faster and lighter tire. This means it will perform great as a  front or rear tire. Voted a winner by Mountain Bike Action, the Nevegal X Pro's DTC compound reduces weight yet maintains the tacky feel of a classic Nevegal. If you're looking for a do-anything trail tire that shines in dry conditions but can stand up to the challenge of light mud as well, the Kenda Nevegal X Pro hits the mark.

Features:

  • Wheel size: 27.5"
  • Versatile All-Mountain / Trail tire
  • Best in dry, loose-over-hard conditions and light mud
  • DTC Dual Tread Compound for longer wear and better grip in the corners
  • SCT (Sealant Compatible Tire) Tubeless Compatible for easy setup and incredible puncture protection
  • Folding bead
  • Low Rolling Resistance
  • 120 TPI
  • Max PSI: 50
  • Tire Weight: 754±38(2.1"), 827±41(2.35")

Much better than the older version
This new X version is far superior to the older Nevegal. Tougher, rolls faster, corners better and lasts a long time. Ran as a rear tire on Santa Cruz Bronson all over Calif, AZ & NV.

Big Improvements
Have had several Nevegals over the years and they were OK if you didn't push the corners too hard. This 'X' version is way better. The side knobs were re-shaped to not roll over when pushed, the transition knobs actually work, and the rounded profile provides neutral steering traversing off-camber sections. I would say it is as good as the Maxxis Ardent it replaced, but slightly bigger, which is high praise. It's my new favorite front tire. Only have a couple hundred miles on it, so I can't comment on durability. Might be a five-star if it holds up.

Great ride
Great ride. Takes corners fast without sliding out. The tire holds air on a Mavic tubeless rim even without sealant.

Good traction
I got a 2.10 and 2.35 version of this tire to replace my worn Bontrager Expert XR3s. I have six rides on them for about 65 miles. My results are mixed.

Summary: Neither measured as expected but the traction has been pretty good. I haven't set any records uphill but downhill have been getting comfortable leaning into these on corners.

Details: I mounted them on rims that are 26mm internal and 32mm external. It took a bit of air volume and pressure to seat the bead but once seated they sealed up pretty quickly. I had to shake some Stans around but never saw any leak out anywhere on the tire.

The 2.1" measured at 2.19" and the 2.35" measured 2.26". Meanwhile my original 2.35" Nevegal on my 26" measured right at 2.35".

On the third ride with them, I managed to slice the side wall of the rear 2.1" right above the bead. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that this was just my time to a slice a side wall but it's hard to say.

Not for East Coast riding
I had ridden Kenda Nevegals for a long time on several bikes with consistently mediocre performance - pinch flats were common below 30 psi on my old 26er and below 35 psi on my 650B (160lbs, hard rider). However, I felt that it was a good tire regardless and when I converted my bike to tubeless setup (DT Swiss EX1501 wheelset) I bought Nevegals at the fantastically low price. The pros are that with the total redesign, the tires are super light and roll much better than the old design. Furthermore, traction is excellent. Where they begin to break down (metaphorically and literally) is just how weak they are. I punctured the tire within 60 miles of riding which resulted in the rim denting as well which then punctured the wheel in a second place (one right next to a center knob and one directly on the sidewall next to the rim). I rode these tires up in Kingdom Trails, VT for 3 days with no problems and I think that is because it is all hardpack dirt for the most part with some roots at times. These tires do very well in those riding conditions. However, coming back to CT where we have razor sharp rocks and insane root systems, the tires just don't hold up. After 80 miles and one month of riding on these I am swapping out to Schwalbe Super Gravity series.

Small, rounded profile, low volume tire.
27.5x2.35. Tire was easy to install and inflate tubeless. This is NOT a high volume tire. It is very small for a 2.35, much smaller than a 2.3 WTB or Maxxis. Installed on a 25mm rim and the tire has a VERY round profile. I expected a much larger tire tire. I will have to see how it grips given done time and varied terrain.

Buy em in bulk if the price is nice.
This was my first tubeless tire and I'm hooked. I can seat the bead on these tires on the trail. They seal up just as fast as I puncture them. They grip in various terrain, from loony for rest to light sand over hard pack.

Excellent Tire
I am very pleased with how this tire has performed thus far, and getting it set up was a breeze.
Tire may run a tad bit small compared to the quoted sizing.

Will these, 27.5 x 2.35, DTC, Folding tires work on my tubeliss Enve M70 Thirty composite rims? ...or do I need specific UST?
Jack on Jun 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes! These tires are tubeless ready.
Will this set up tubeless on WTB i23 2.4 wheels?
Matt on Jan 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have used these tires for years on both Mavic Crossmax rims and DT M1700 Spline 2 Rims and they work great on both. The WTB i23 rims are UST compliant and these tires should work great with them also.
