I have used the Salmon pads on my around-town Surly LHT and am currently using the black pads on my around-town rigid MTB.
Unless you're not planning to ride in any kind of wet conditions at all, I strongly recommend the Salmon version. I'm not sure what advantages the black would have, but the stopping power in wet conditions is much less!

These pads made a profound difference in my braking ability. I have compared them against Aztecs and two different kinds of unnamed/no-name. These run a softer compound than the others, which creates more friction. I would assume that the Eagle Claw II's will have a shorter lifespan as a result of the softer compound, but after somewhere around 800 miles, I have not observed any appreciable wear. Even were I to have to replace them now, I'd be happy with them and go bck for more of the same.
They also seem to do a good job of clearing mud, sand, and dust. We have a clay-based mud that gets real slick in mud season, but these pads don't miss a beat.
In the interest of disclosure, I would move up to disks if my frame had the mounts, but as long as I have rim-brakes, I'll keep going back to these.

I have the salmon colored ones on the front of my commuter bike with cantilever style brakes. A big difference in stopping power in rain compared to my old brake pads. Before I would have start braking long before a red light. These will stop on a dime even when its coming down hard. Will definitely get these again.
